SHO told B Hop they didnt have the money. Where are all the posters talking about CBS having unlimited cash for boxing?

Somehow those beliebers will try to spin this and say haymon was thinking big picture and Bernard's an idiot. Cue the Bernard backlash.

Haymon had a plum spot making money from both sides of the fence, but it wasn't enough for him. He's a very smart business man, but he'd be far from the first smart one whose fallen victim to their own hubris. The instant smart people start believing they can never be outfoxed, they've already lost.

I, for one, couldn't be happier that things went down like this, and it has nothing to do with a like or dislike of Haymon. Fight fans lost when he poached Stevenson and backed him out of the Kovalev fight, and they win with Hopkins-Kovalev. I'm glad Hopkins saw through Haymon's plan and gave us the best available fight.

Would Hopkins-Stevenson have been a 'win' for fans also? Seems to me that's the only way this comparison works.

The only difference here is that Team Kovalev outbid Team Stevenson for a Hopkins fight. Unless you're a huge Krusher fan or Haymon hater (if you believe Hopkins' theory), what fundamentally makes a Hopkins-Kovalev and a 'better' fight than Hopkins-Stevenson?

I'm glad B-Hop is getting his paper, but based on the article, Hopkins seems more interested in beating his chest about allegedly 'outmaneuvering' Haymon than any talk of the impact of either fight.

I don't think he's saying one or the other is better. I think he's saying that Hopkins-Kovalev being signed saved us from losing out yet again on account of Stevenson and Haymon.

    Maybe. But when I read:

It sounds like there's a belief that Hopkins-Krusher is a better fight than Stevenson-BHop. Which I find funny because I read a lot of criticism against Stevenson chasing a fight with 'old man' Hopkins. Now people celebrate him signing to fight Kovalev. Seems odd to me, because you'd think the criticism would be the same.

    Just my thoughts.

    Momentum's a tricky thing.

Had Stevenson been a Showtime fighter for awhile, or hadn't abandoned the Kovalev fight at the 11th hour, I wouldn't have a problem saying Stevenson-Hopkins was just as big a fight as Hopkins-Kovalev.

The circumstances under which Stevenson changed networks, rightly or wrongly, created the impression he was ducking Kovalev. Whether or not that is actually the business case, that's the story boxing fans are buying- and when that's the story they're buying, your career pays a price for it.

Since then, Stevenson struggled with a fighter he was expected to blow out while Kovalev treated his showcase, stay busy fights as just that (to be fair, Fonfara's better than those guys, but he was also hand-picked because Stevenson's team thought the straight-up Fonfara would be the perfect guy for Adonis to look good against).

Adonis and Haymon tried to be too clever for their own good and left out the most crucial part of the plan- actually getting the fight made. There's an old Wall Street saying- bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered. They won't be getting "slaughtered", but this plan blew up in Haymon's and Stevenson's face, and its taken the luster off of Adonis' next fight- whoever it may be against. After a stellar 2013, it's shocking to see how Stevenson's career has turned into the perfect case study of how to kill your own momentum.

Fair enough. I can't speak for others, but aside from Kovalev-Stevenson, either guy fighting Hopkins is the best available fight.

As for the Haymon plan mentioned, I'm not sure if he meant that Haymon seems to be making disingenuous attempts at making a big fight , or part of a larger plan.

At this point though, I think people have a right to be skeptical of Stevenson's and Haymon's methods.
