This is a thread to discuss fighters who would have been ideally suited to a weight class, that came along after their career/prime.

Simply put they were born in the wrong era.

    Examples?

I suppose the obvious is the many heavies who would have been cruisers at the 190 pound mark.
Not that it stopped him achieving great things but wouldn't SRR have made a perfect jr middle?

Your forgetting that Ray had same day weigh ins, the man would have been at lightweight and welterweight a lot longer

I was thinking more of people who were somtimes overmatched in their weight class, but would have been almost unbeatable in a later one.

Joe Choynski is a good example.

Harold Johnson. Was in his prime in the 50s but had Archie Moore ahead of him. So he didn't win the title until 1963 at age 33. Harold would have ruled the 60s at light-heavyweight had he been younger, until Foster came around.

I am not going to say anyone obvious and the boxer I am suggesting actually held a title in the division but in recent years the division has changed it's weight limit . And I am not suggesting he would of been an ATG in the division but I am suggesting he would of held the title he had for a few years longer .

    Glenn mccrory - cruiser-weight

I wonder how long the Nonpareil might have reigned, if there had been a welterweight division for him to campaign in!

Jimmy Wilde at, at least, 105 comes to mind. Packey McFarland at 140 maybe?

Billy Conn comes to mind. He could have made super middle without much effort.

Oh, well if that is the criteria then scratch Conn off the list.

He didn’t beat the greatest heavyweight of all time, at the absolute peak of his abilities, but he gave it a fair shot by all accounts!

Harry Greb seemed built for 168, too.
