    ---

Can't blame Hopkins there. After everything Hopkins accomplished while being overlooked by almost everyone in every big fight he headlined people still do the same thing and overlook the wins they never expected him to score. While I expect fans to continue doing the same, I personally didn't expect Kellerman to follow in those footsteps. While Kovalev would be a major win for Hopkins' career mostly based on his current age, he's definitely not worth mentioning over many already in Hopkins' record. People that are overlooking Hopkins are also forgetting that a 50 year old Hopkins will be Kovalev' biggest fight/challenge yet, NOT the other way around.

The only hope Kovalev and his fans have is if Hopkins shows up unable to perform as he once used to. Which means he's forced to being flat footed, can't move as he used to and has to be overly active(which will exploit his stamina and age) to keep Kovalev off. If this is purely based on styles then Kovalev is just another aggressive fighter that Hopkins will dismantle.

Meh. You can't expect a neutral interviewer to march to your tune.

As for the fight itself, I think this will prove whether Kovalev is a relatively simple static, come forward brawler or if there is more to his game then he has been forced to show so far.

I'm on the fence at the moment. I could see how either could be the case.

I could see Bernard's side because it appeared max washed over his previous big fight accomplishments, but I don't think that was the case. I think maxs point was, you're 50 and facing a very accurate, devestating puncher. It really is one of his biggest challenges. Kov is a much bigger puncher than Pavlik, has better form, and flat out the guy doesn't give a ****.

Overhyping unproven fighter will never cease to exist. Even at 50 im sure hops can bring him to school.

I agree with this. I don't put anything past Hop because once steps in the ring he changes the game but Kov at his age would be a far bigger accomplishment than was Pavlik.

How can you say that with a straight face? Kovalev is still unrpoven and Hopkins is one of ATG fighters.

He fights a guy that has the potential to become huge at the deep winter of his career. Former accomplishments have nothing to do with that, it's here and now.
Like I said in another thread, Hopkins hasn't beaten a real big name since the two Pascal fights at age 46.

So of course he's the underdog again. The man is pushing frickin' 50 and no matter what you do or take, he's going to end up in some Expendables movie sooner rather as later.

I must be honest as well. I don't think Pascal is all that big of a name. But yes, bigger than Shumenov and Murat.

Were 49 year old Hopkins (15+ years and two weight divisions beyond his absolute best) to defeat Kovalev, who is a hugely heavy handed man almost eighteen years Hopkins' junior (and who many consider to be the best at 175) then surely it WOULD be the greatest feat of Bernard's already legendary career?

Whilst I have huge admiration for everything Hopkins has achieved (the man is undoubtedly an ATG) the fact that BHop, at almost 50 years of age, is still considered relevant in the LHW division is as much to do with how poor the current crop of 175lb fighters are as Hopkins' greatness!

For the record, whilst I do believe that whilst Kovalev has his limitations, a 50 year old Hopkins is not going to expose them! Bernard is not a murderous puncher and my guess is that Kovalev will apply pressure from the first bell, eventually crack a clean shot on Bernard, then end the fight.

I don't know if it is because of Bernard's age and lack of serious competition over the past few years or Kovalev's undoubted power and obvious desire to hurt his opponents (maybe it's a mixture of all) but I do genuinely fear for "The Executioner" in this fight!!!

It's called arrogance. Bernard does it well.
