Impossible to say. I think we can all agree that it would be astonishing, but it depends. Remember Jeff Lacey? So much depends upon what Kovalev goes on to do. If Bernard matches Golovkin at 168 then retires, and Kovalev dominates 175 for a generation, or something close to it, that is obviously even more astonishing.

So unknown. But it's certainly not going to do him any harm.

I am with McGrain. If Bernard does win, it will take some time before we can access how good Kovalev is, and what a victory over him means.

Yeah, I obviously understand this point of view.

To me, Lacy was awesome, all the talent to be a big thing but Calzaghe ruined him, more mentally I believe, and then other things happened to him like the shoulder problem and shoulders to boxers can be as delicate as knees to football or basketball athletes.

I tend to think differently when this situation is mentioned. Can't we see how good Kovalev is when he fights already? He has power, put the punches together very well, is reasonably quick for a slugger and there are other details in his skillset.

If he starts to fade later, and there is a number of reasons to that happen to a high level athlete, it doesn't mean that what SAW was a lie.

Kovalev right now is one of the best fighters out there, ducked by other fighters, Hopkins beats him, he is beating the best guy in the division right now.

Is Kovalev that good right now ? For that answer, we don't need to wait some years, we can give an opinion on what we see of him in the ring right now!

Awesome? Who had he beaten? A washed up light middle in Robin Reid.
Calzaghe did not ruin Lacy he exposed him.,

Supposition, I think Stephenson beats Kovalev, he certainly has a better resume , the point being we don't know until they fight.

Of course no one great as we know.

Dude is a huger puncher though as we can see just looking at the footage, pretty good combination puncher and I don't remember a LHW as big as him (Kovalev would probably be a HW in the old days) that was so light of feet.

    Point taken.

IMO he is way better than Adonis because he is simply more skilled and has more ability, Adonis has only a left hand and is not a combination puncher and that is a serious limitation to him in comparison with Kovalev in my view.
