Chaves after being rocked by several body shots and uppercuts he realized he wanted nothing to do with Rios' power. Causing him to fight the foul filled WWE match that he did, eye raking, DDTs, throwing elbows, all in an effort to keep Bam Bam at bay. Because everytime Rios touched him flush he hurt him, he was fighting very scared. Chaves on the other hand had no problem taking One Time's shots multiple times flush seemingly unaffected by most of them, no holding just slugging it out which is why everyone thought he would steamroll Rios, they hold Thurman's power in such high esteem, it made them think Chaves would walk right over Rios, which wasn't the case. Chaves was eventually put down by Keith's perfectly placed liver shot starting his downward spiral, but up till then was holding his own. Chaves rocked Thurman early Rios walked through all of his shots. Thurman's power didn't back up Chaves though Rios' did. Thurman obviously far more skilled than Rios, who isn't, but his power is being overrated, and his chin seems shaky, so the first guy with legit power and legit chin, has the potential to walk right through Thurman. :readthre:EDIT As clarification nowhere do I say Rios beats Thurman, but everyone thinks Thurman is a monster with crazy power, yet Chaves showed more fear of Rios' power than Keith's. KIND OF means kind of, not 100% definitively. I am merely speculating than maybe Keith and his power may not be as astounding as people have thought. Maidana and Rosado stopped Soto-Karass quicker. Diaz was stopped by David Torres, Pavel Miranda, Henry Auraad, and Hector Sanchez. Quintana was shot to pieces when Thurman stopped him. He couldn't stop Zaveck but Berto cut him up and brutalized him and they threw the towel in. You can't always compare performances to adequately analyze how good a fighter is, but a pattern is emerging Thurman may just be a regular half decent fighter instead the future ATG that many are thinking he is.
Chaves Thurman was a competitive fight, Rios' punch resistance is ridiculous, I think he'd last 2 rounds more than Chaves. I don't think anyone at WW can KO Rios that being said I don't rate Rios very high.
Yep, for the first comment, and could very well be for the second. But the fact is that Chavez wanted none of Rios. There is too many Rios haters here. I don't hold him high, but the fact is Chaves bitched out
Thurman's one and only argument is that he did get the definitive KO win. Otherwise Chaves didn't seem troubled by his power all night. The speed difference between chavez, rios and thurman is negligible. Thats not saying a lot..
We already knew Rios had a punch and a chin. Fights have different results and different dynamics. Thurman destroyed JSK way easier than Maidana and Berto was TKO'd by JSK, with JSK taking his shots well. Porter couldn't put a dent in Diaz, Thurman made him quit. Thurman has power and has skills. He has beaten his comparable opposition to other Welter contemporaries far easier.
Maidana stopped Soto Karass in 8 it took Keith 9. Berto in his defense only had one arm for Soto Karass. Porter wasn't doped up yet.
You must be blind Chaves was leading the cards the person who robbed you was the referee do you know how many right hands Rios took I lost count.
That's not necessarily my point, however now that you mention it, Thurman doesn't react well to overhands which Brandon likes to throw, its not out of the question Rios catching him with something.
Yeah, unless Thurman gets a taste and decides that Rios isn't a puncher above 135lbs. I could see Thurman getting in and out, landing power shots and making Rios miss for however long it takes. Thurman doesn't get in the ring looking for a points win. Expect Rios to cry about Thurman "fighting like a *****" because he won't just stand there forehead to forehead like a ******.
You could be right, but that could be where Thurman makes the mistake by getting too comfortable with Brandon and walking into a big shot like Alvarado.
