Fight is delayed because of Stiverne's injury, but it will still happen. Wilder will bring ref Count Dracula from Transylvania to disqualify any opponent he has..............

Just read that Vlad will be fighting the winner of Stiverne/Wilder in late March or April...................it has been approved according to Boente..................

 

He's having a warm up on the undercard of Porter-Brook. Good to know he's planning to stay active rather than wait for Stiverne.

 

They way Wilder is being brought up is almost as bad the way Mike Tyson was. In was no surprise to me that Tyson completely folded against Old Buster, he just wasn't used to opponents fighting back. Say what you want but Wilder's cv now in still better than Mike Tyson's was before he got his first World title shot. It's about bringing fighters up the right way really and Mike's team let him down in that regard.

Chitown already broke the news a few days ago.... Not confirmed officially, but he's likely facing the very dangerous, and reputable Mike Sheppard who got blasted out in 1 rd by Chagaev last year and was dominated and KO'd by a 45 year old Tarver in 4 rounds. What a risky fight for Wilder to take, and I'm sure he'll get the rounds he needs to shake off the rusts with a durable opponent like this!

 

I agree. He's probably fighting some nobody but he has a title shot with Stiverne and he's not going to risk that. Simply staying busy until his shot comes.

A lot of criticism can rightfully be laid at Wilder for the competition he's faced so far but I don't think this is one of those cases. Staying active and avoiding long layoffs is a good thing.

 

Yeah, you have to look at records at a similar stage of development. Wilder's record for nearly the first FIVE YEARS of his career is actually considerably less impressive than Tyson's, particularly if you consider the quality of the opponents. Tyson fought tomato cans for a year, but then as you note, stepped up to durable journeymen, and fringe contenders like Ferguson, Green and Ribalta.

Wilder has YET to fight opponents as good as those three (arguably Scott is close, washed up Fraudley and Lyakhovich are not) now over

Think about it. After ONE YEAR of being a pro, Tyson was fighting better opponents than Wilder has ever faced. In less than TWO years into his career, he was fighting for a belt against Berbick.

There is a REASON why Wilder's team has yet to face a live body. They know something that most knowledgeable boxing fans can easily - Wilder can't take a punch and will be DESTROYED by anybody decent. That's why he faces the softest opposition his team can find.

 

I'd rather Wilder fight the opponent Mike Sheppard lost to last - China Smith. China at one time was a fringe fringe (yeah double fringe) contender, and being he beat Sheppard and Sheppard has five of six, why not give the fight to a guy like China who actually has a respectable record? Only 11 days away I'm guessing that's all too late to change, but even for a stay busy this fight is pretty terrible.

You know who'd be good? Guinn. I'd like to see Wilder's power against Guinn's iron chin.

 

Hardly a fight to keep him active until Stiverne... this guy won't make it through 1 round. Poor once again from Wilder & his team.
