It is a stretch to say only those two guys could beat a prime Holmes. All those guys he mentioned except Marciano and Foreman could beat Holmes (even Marciano and Foreman have a puncher's chance). I would even add a few names to that list that list who could beat him. Lewis and either Klitschko could have beaten Holmes imo.
Holmes and Ali are total different histories. Tyson destroyed a 38 years old Holmes. But 42 years old Holmes beat the prime unbeaten Mercer. To me this Mercer win is one of the top 10 Holmes win. For example i think the prime Mercer was better than Tyson after Bruno 2 or Seldon fights. I think this:"Holmes was a weak hopelees fighter in 1988 doesn't work." To me Holmes is an unfair ,tricky man. Who was real unprepared before the Tyson-Holmes? Holmes? Bull****. Tyson was unprepared.Oh i know some Tyson hater journalists can deny this. But they can prove nothing. Tyson was 221,25 pounds against Berbick in 1986. (Maybe his famous ko punch was his best moment ever) Tyson was only 215.75 pounds against Holmes. This proves Tyson couldn't train his muscle mass becuse he was busy(fight after fight). Holmes was fresh.I think this fresh Holmes believed he could beat the still inexperinced 21 years old guy. Who was Tyson's first opponent in 1988? The good old Holmes.(What a "surprise"!) From Tyson's carrier 1987-08-01 Tyson-Tucker wud12 1987-10-16 Tyson-Biggs wtko7 1988-01-22 Tyson-Holmes wtko4 I think(big chance) Tyson was tired. I think this Holmes was tricky and he tried to beat a tired young fighter. Who was Ali after Holmes in the current boxing world? A nobody
I think you have other opinion. w. klitschko? He's a joke A total bum Puritty destroyed him in his prime. v. klitschko? His best wins: a talentless,glass-chinned 38 years old crap Briggs by points and the fat bum Corrie Sanders. Byrd beat him.The 37 years old Lewis beat him. I hope you don't wanna give a chance to the klitschko sisters. Muhaha !!! Say a better joke.I wanna laugh at you !
you are so hopelessly bias. From your comments it's clear that you have a burning hatred for Wlad. Did he bone your sister or something? Vitali: Highest Knockout percentage of any HW champ, never down on the score cards after a fight, never knocked down in a fight, most active heavyweight puncher of all time averaging 90 punches a round. Both Lewis and Byrd were recipients of lucky decisions by injuries sustained to Vitali when he was handily beating both. Both ducked rematches with him. Briggs doesn't have a glass chin. His chin is very good. Wlad: 2nd longest reigning HW champ in history. Best jab and straight right in HW history. Best footwork and balance of any super HW in history. Devastating 2 handed puncher. Wlad was dominating Purrity for the entire fight but gassed himself out looking for a finish, same with Brewster. He would have easily won if he had taken his foot of the gas pedal and been more selective. He took Sanders lightly and paid dearly for it. Sanders was no bum, a devastating early round KO puncher who was highly ducked. It is a given that we are talking about prime match ups here so bringing up the pre Steward loses makes no sense. "Klitschko sisters" it seems you have watched too many brain damaged James Toney interviews. So yes it is within reason to believe both men could beat Larry Holmes. I believe you intentionally troll this forum with stupid nonsensical drivel but if you're serious....my god you are stupid.
BTW all your comments sound like you are using a translating program. Is english your first language?
Yes Larry looked great that night but anyone with a brain cell knows that wasn't the true Ali that night... as it's been said, the greatest was no longer great at that point in time.
The bias against the Klitchkos is obvious. Though a cut opened in a fair fight a la Lewis is not what I call lucky, & the outcome would have been unsure. Klitchko was winning but Lewis was rallying. I have never heard that Vitali averaged 90 punches a wound, most in HW history. I suppose you mean punches thrown, not landed. Still, do you have a source for that?
Holmes' victory over a washed-up Ali meant little, other than more brain damage for Ali. I do think, though, that a prime Holmes would be a problem for any version of Ali.
A prime Scott Walker outboxed the great Alexis Arguello in 1995. 16 months later when he was past his prime he was stopped in the 2nd round by the great Julio Cesar Chavez. Nobody beats a 1994-1995 Scott Walker. The man went 8-0 (3) during that time and even beat a Hall of Famer! Patrick Lawlor otboxed the great Wilfred Benitez in 1990 and stopped the great Roberto Duran in teh 6th round in 1991. Lawlor was washed up when he finally got a world title shot in June of 1992 (TKO9 (cut eye) John David Jackson). Nobody beats Lawlor in 1991-1992, the man went 2-0 (1) against Hall of Famers during that time, 5-0 (1) overall. I like Larry Holmes. I rank him the 2nd best HW ever behind only Muhammad Ali... but his win over Ali is definately not a yardstick.
Prime Ali would school Holmes and probably figure out Holmes was easy to time for the right hand, i think Larry was an excellent fighter with a great jab but if we look at the Tyson fight and a peak back at Shavers and Snipes and then M. Spinks we could see Larry s great jab would get him past many except for the great right hand bangers with a bit of finishing skills. I see Louis, Marciano, Lewis, Dempsey and possibly Schmeling being able to finish the job like Tyson did. Ali prime vs the Holmes he fought would be in a different position to hurt and finish Larry late using his lead right followed by a flurry
not all fighters faced the opposition Ali did and took the punishment he did ffs, do we really have to explain that to you? what was Tysons excuse against Mcbride? What about Holyfield against Tank Williams?
Yeah, explain it, ffs. I'd like 5 dense paragraphs please (approximately 750 words), with balance, factoids, and no hero worship. I'm just going to putter around the house for awhile, but will check back in in a little while. If you need time to go get your GED, just let me know. In the meantime, just fill in the space below:
im not here to babysit you. Why don't you get off your arse and find out this information yourself. but it seems you've already made your mind up, evident by oft repeated fan boy accusations
