Get the ****! Reid is deffinitely worth mentioning. He was better than Taylor, Abraham, Greene, Warton, Pazienza and theyve all been mentioned as if noteworthy!
Eubank had one of the most solid wins beating undefeated Graciano Rocchiginani in Germany. Calzaghe and Jones both wanted nothing to do with going to Germany v Michelczhewski and Ottke.
Froch has a good list of names but not not all great names. Dirrell, whats he done? Abraham any top super middle will get a win over him hes a middle weight, same goes for Taylor. Kessler was closer than the score cards and that was a tired Kessler. Hes been around as champ for years. Their first fight Kessler won and that was Kessler coming off a loss. George Groves did well in the first fight but as time goes on im pretty sure Groves doesnt beat any top puncher. He wont get past Bika if they fight.
True, but Roy's circumstances were a little different. Eubank was just happy to keep defending his WBO belt, against whoever, and wherever. Roy was the best fighter in the world, he was the unified champ at LHW, and he'd seen Dariusz cheat against Roch, and he didn't believe he'd get a fair shake over there. (his words) In 2001, he also said "I don't think a knockout would be enough over there!" In the end, neither fighter was willing to travel. I respect Eubank for going to Germany, and Roch was a good fighter. But the stakes were a lot higher for Roy. With regards to Joe and Ottke, I can't really comment, because I don't know the specifics.
I don't disagree with that but the status of both before the tourney, and again after it, was light years away perhaps if bute had earnt a shot at ward by beating froch, then we wouldn't be here doing hypotheticals at the end of the day, bute's name was only in the mix in the same way sturm's was at MW, and many, many others and the common denominator is having 'a belt' while beating exactly nobody
Only an idiot would rate Reid over Abraham and Taylor. Green has accomplished absolutely NOTHING better than Taylor and Abraham. Even his resume is terrible and can't be compared.
Largely a good, fair post. Only things I'd quibble with is Eubank having taken the fight on short notice, and on the way to a career ending losing streak is not a better win than that version of Kessler. AA and Reid were of similar ability, but Ward dominated AA while Calzaghe struggled more with Reid, although I think the fight should have been a UD, not a SD. But we arrive at the same point in the end, I think Calzaghe has the better resume as of now.
Nobody is talking belts except you. Bute had beaten more top 10 rated comp, even if not the level of Kessler and Froch and looked better against common opposition at that time. Also we dont know how Ward would have faired if he travelled like Bute did. Ward didnt really clean house. He beat Kessler, who beat Froch etc. Ward didnt once beat a top undefeated fighter. Tell me why you try and make excuses for Ward not taking the biggest fight that could have been made in his division?
