Anyone else think that going down to 1 title per weight class would make boxing worse

    Think about it.

The titles would be held hostage by Golden Boy and Top Rank American glass chinned hype jobs who would be incredibly carefully matched fighting has beens and feather fisted plodders who have no chance of a knock out so if it goes to **** they can rely on a trusty robbery.

It would be too difficult for promoters without finicial muscle to generate opportunity's for their fighters, and the sanctioning body won't really push for the Leonard Bundu's or Jurgen Brahmer's of this world to get title shots because American audiences are being brainwashed by Max Kellerman and his band of merry men to believe that the Adrien Broner's and the Julio Cesar Chavez's of this world are above C-level and worthy of being in with the Mayweather's and Ward's. :-(

No more than two titles per weight class

If you have one title you have to fight for the other or be stripped

    Would make things better

But only Golden Boy hype jobs would get the shots though. The Broner's and Ortiz's of this world who feast on midgets and over rated has beens.

Yes but if there is only one belt per weight class and the sanctioning body of that belt gets a cut of what the fight draws do you think the none drawing fighters who are from in Eastern Europe or Japan, can't speak a word of English and are little jab masters would be but into a position to earn mandatories?

One look at any of the four sanctioning bodies rankings now would tell you that they are a joke- imagine if there was just 17 world titles throughout boxing.

You need a sanctioning body that is fair and ranks and give title shots based on merit instead of which makes the most money for the sanctioning body.

It won't happen though, being a business they will want to make as much money as possible. And that means given bums like Broner and Ortiz who are shoved down the throats of the American public will be the ones getting title shots and end up with mismatches like Mayweather v Ortiz for the only belt around.

yea as much as people complain about too many title belts, the sport has gotten more global. so it would be kinda hard for one belt to bounce around different continents and give everyone a fair shot at it. politics and geography would block those without the financial backing even more than it has now.
in an economic sense, a championship belt is only a tool for promoters to sell a fight to the public as more lucrative than a 'normal' fight. that's all . so for fighters to get paid, they call them champions and the public takes more notice. if there was only one belt per division not many fighters would be making much money.

That is not necessarily true. Businesses sometimes do things in the short run that cost them money.

That is the way things are now. It doesn't have to be that way in the future.

It wouldn't matter if the best fought each other most of the time, and politics didn't get of the way of things...... Ducking/Politics cause far more problems.

That's the best thing that can happen to boxing.

Then proflammer n boxing clown would be lost.
Instead of 8/10 div regional title holder in pac it would have been 3/4 div title holder.
    Maybe less

as long as only one or two were recognised as the real deal, I don't mind how many crap titles float around.

The reason there is a lot of ducking is because major belt holders are not forced to fight each other.

Of course it wouldn't make it worse.

A lot of the problems we have today would still excist, but a lot would be resolved in an instant.
Of course pomoters and networks would still try to keep the fights as much in house as possible, and would try to avoid the best opponents as much as humanly possible, but it will be much harder to keep up.
A debacle like Floyd/Pac would have easily been avoided because if the champ refuses to fight the #1 he'll be stripped and the challenger can fight for the vacant title. Purses are set, champions can't make stupid demands and the sport would be better for it.
No more paper beltholders, no more big names having it easy to avoid other big names because both have belts.

Of course it wouldn't go as smoothly as it looks on paper, but it would be better as it is now.
