Will Ward get a fight with anyone where he cannot dictate terms?

as I've said already, this would determine the legitimate successor to calzaghe, which is why having a 'world championship belt' was a hollow achievement when each fighter knew the stakes were higher

ward didn't dictate terms for the super six, his lack of achievements prior to the tournament meant that the supposed main players were too busy maneuvering against 'known quantity fighters', and goosen capitalised

 

Little to gain as the S6 was a whole format for them to go through, when they could have just fought each other and not bothered with a whole tournament and let contenders work their way through.

Ward and Dirrell were supposed to meet and Dirrell didnt want it at Wards home. I recall Frochs then promoter saying he didnt think the fight was going to happen as neither had gone into training, a venue hadnt been agreed etc and then Dirrell did drop out of the S6 and was as I recall sparring before his fight with Ward would have been due.
They were two fighters who the S6 offered something to, as neither had a big name or title.

As said Kessler and Froch deserve credit and Froch really did have a tougher S6 run that Ward to the final

 

Why do you think they are trying to get GGG in with Chavez Jr, Froch, Cotto, etc. on PPV?
By the time Ward is finished playing lawyer and has his tune up fight fight and recovers from his injuries(2015?2016?:rofl) Golovkin will have a higher profile and Ward won't be able to have everything his own way in negotiations.

 

Hey he racks up the wins sure no problem but as of right now he's the passenger not the driver .

 

granted, dirrell and ward did have nothing to lose compared to froch and Kessler. no argument there. and it's definitely a credit to both froch and Kessler that they didn't let the leverage they held by having 'a belt' blind their ambition to become something greater

You are talking hindsight after the event and not what was happening at the time. Steiglitz was another with a title at that time, but not with the notoriety of Bute

Steiglitz was not part of the subject really, I was just mentioning another fighter who was not in the S6. You always get fighters who dont do alot at the weight but hold a title. I like P Quillin, but he has yet to do much, though I wouldnt bet against him against Golovkin, but thats another story

i figure wards career is pretty much over, his heart seems to be with the $ not the boxing, he seems happy to juts sit and commentate...

i dont see his contract with goosen ending anytime soon, by the time it does, ward will be irrelevant

guys like tito and Oscar, who were cash-cow phenoms at the time, didn't move up to fight Hopkins because he wasn't a PPV draw - they moved up because he was THE MAN at 160
sometimes fighting for a genuine title in this sport, trumps making a bigger $$$ event

 

ward is (partly) his own worst enemy
we'll call it 'fate' that the one tournament that was put together in boxing to decide a successor to a legitimate champion, ended up giving us a 'champion in limbo'
