Gennady Golovkin is 32 years old. Some people say well, hes too old and he hasnt even fought anybody yet. Whats your take on this? I think hes not too old at all, take a look at hopkins, the man is 49 fvcking years old, also not to mention sergio martinez wasnt the youngest when he was at his best , and plenty of other fighters. Im just impatient about the big fights GGG will get, I really WANT to see this guy fight an elite fighter, I continue to grow impatient everyday, whether its Julio Cesar Chavez jr, cotto, froch, or quillin. I want to see the big fight already

we all do, but fighters like golovkin can get ****ed over for the same reason drug tests can be avoided - federations write their own rules, and nobody has to face anybody if they don't feel like it

I'm not going to say things like Hopkins puts roids on his cornflakes every morning, or Sergio was a great boxer but was way overrated on this forum, so those comparisons are inapt. But what I will say is, just addressing the question, is that a boxer's prime is generally 28-32, so this may be as good as GGG ever looks. But I also think his style ("My style is predator style") will age well as long as he stays disciplined. So even though I think he's a clean fighter, I think he's got a few good years left in him for sure. Plenty of time, in fact, to hunt down his duckers and still unify the division.

Ya its definitely something to note about G. He likely is in his peak right now and one has to think theres only a few years til he starts to decline.

Damn man, It would really be sad for GGG to be a wasted talent, hes a fighter that I look at and just say "DAMNN what a BEAST." The dude keeps walking through guys like they are children compared to him, he has amazing footwork, boxing IQ, and underrated defense that he hasn't had to use yet. I'm so impatient, and a little pissed that nobody wants to step up to him, quillin wants absolutely no part of him. CMON CHAVEZ JR?? WHERE YOU AT??? And its obvious cotto is shook by him, he doesnt want no part of him, instead hes looking to fight Andy fvucking lee LOLOL

I'd say he's hitting his prime. He'll probably be able to go strong for 3 more years and then will begin to decline. He hasn't been in wars, rarely is hit cleanly, and is very economical with his energy and body. The big question is: will they be able to get big fights for big money. That's yet to be seen, so it's unclear whether or not his best years will be wasted.

I don't think he'll show any decline til he's about 35, even then he'll still be really good. I think GGG will be in the picture for at least 4-5 years. Hopkins is an alien at his age obviously.

It's interesting to note that at that age (32) Hagler was considered past his best and had been a world champ for what? 7 years or so?

Golovkin isn't a spring chicken and inasmuch as fighters seem to hold onto their fighting condition longer than fighters of the past, the human body does start to deteriorate as one ages, there is no getting away from that.

What Hopkins is doing at his age defies description, and it's because of what he's doing at his age that makes him special, and anyone who is forty or older will nod in agreement. He is an exception, not the rule.

GGG is not too old - yet. But I do wish he were a few years younger, because to me has has about 5-6 years to either really make his mark or miss the boat. A lot will depend on whether he can get the fights he needs to elevate his status in this time.

He's too old IMO but he's fighting 4 times a year so he'll probably make up for it.

Athletes in all sports seem to hit their prime later and for longer these days. So 32 is probably in the middle of Golovkin's prime. We should have about 3 more years or so of him at his best so he still has time to establish his legacy if he can get the fights made. Time isn't on his side but it's not too late yet.

I'd say he has maybe 1-2 more years of being in prime, then he'll start fading.

His style will age very well- as he slows down physically, he's still got the timing, accuracy, one-punch power, and countering skills to be a beast of a matchup problem against the other middleweights. He's got at least 5 years at a very high level left in him IMO.
