Frazier has a style that's no good against big punchers and his defence is too poor to survive more than a couple of rounds.
Although I agree that Tua is over-rated, this would not be a good match-up for Frazier style-wise. Tua's power, size, stamina, and ability to take a punch would determine the outcome. Tua by KO, imo.
...Can't really say. Frazier is miles ahead in just about everything except chin and punch, which when you consider their styles, makes a big difference. Frazier would be wise to get as close to Tua as possible to deny him leverage and punching room. Joe could work with six inches of space, a rare asset even among short heavies.
I am not a big fan of betting hard cash on matches between swarmers, but I would pick Frazier here. The critical factors would likely be that he had much faster hands, and better defence. These are often the deciding factors in swarmer on swarmer wars. Factors that would give me additional concern from Tua’s standpoint, are his lack of success against top 10 rated opponents, and apparent lack of willingness to commit under fire in some fights.
frazier is the much greater better fighter overall but h2h there are several important factors her ein favour of tua.. he had great power, great chin and good stamina. if frazier lasts longer of 5 rounds he will win by decision for sure. the key factor is how he would take the power of tua early. i think that david would dislike the pressure of frazier constantly over him inside and he would not be comfortable with this distance, he would need more space to land. i think that frazier survives and wins a decision
He's a slugger. Please, no wikipedia links as a proof that he was a swarmer, where they have Calzaghe, Gavilan, Greb, Patterson, Wilde listed as swarmers as well.
Frazier is undoubtedly the greater fighter, but factoring in that Tua almost definitely hits harder than Frazier and has a better chin, his disadvantages in speed may not be enough to enable Joe to win this.
I love Frazier but this is a terrible match up for him .. styles make fights and this is very dangerous for Joe .. very.
Tua's effort against Lewis goes down as one of the weakest challenges ever for the HWbelt , bloke just had to have a go and he would have had a punchers chance - just stood in front of Lewis for 12 doing stuff all . Frazier of FOTC century smokes and chops down a badly fatigued Tua in 13, 14 or 15 .
The old Tyson probably put in more effort, at least for the first 4 rounds against Lewis. Tua was content to playing hide and seek with Lewis.
The Lewis fight is irrelevant to bring up because Lewis and Frazier were nothing alike. Lewis used his long reach and boxing skills to keep Tua at bay for 12 rounds. Frazier doesn't have the style, reach or skill to keep Tua off him. We know Frazier couldn't deal with power punchers. His defence was poor and he took too many punches in the head. He barely beat the Firpo clone brawler Bonavena and got dropped twice. Bonavena as a slugger was inferior in every regard to Tua. Styles make fights and an iron jawed slugger like Tua would make mincemeat of Frazier.
Thats exactly it, Frazier tried to face Foreman head on, Foreman one of/if not the hardest punchers in heavyweight history and not only that, Foreman was physically strong. Tua is a sack of **** compared to Foreman. Frazier struggled with Bonavena, true. But shall we critically examine Tuas resume? Yes lets do so, firstly, the closest thing to a Frazier type fighter that Tua fought was Ike, and Tua lost that. Tua also never fought Foreman so we cant measure how many times he would have got up (if any) against Foreman. Tuas myth is based upon victores over Ruiz, Moorer, Izon, Maskev, Oquendo and a couple of others. Do you think Frazier would have struggled against these? Moorer and Ruiz, Tua took care of in the first round....the rest he struggled to until he found that punch late in the fight. Most of the guys hed ko'd had suspect chins to begin with and had already been ko'd beforehand (much quicker by other guys i may add). Its just as bad as people jumping on the Deontay Wilder bandwagon because hes got 31 straight Kos
