Acting like the Herrera fight was a definite robbery is either trying to find a reason to hate or unnecessarily abusing yourself with hate due to not being able to score well. Key points to consider is that not a professional opinion soul even came close to uttering the words robbery that night, not one of the commentating, or even Herrera himself. Actually, every last one of them said the fight was close, and that includes Herrera....I repeat, AND HERRERA. And I don't care how good you thought Herrera looked, fact is a guy with little power to start with landed almost nothing but jabs. You realize how hard is for the judges to take rounds from the champ when his opponent has little power to begin with, and is only landing the lightest punch in the game, on top of that, easily being out landed in power shots by the hard hitting champ?? It's no wonder Herrera thought the fight was close, and for the loser to say that, it pretty much means they know they lost.
I hate danny cause angel is such an idiot. Danny actually seems to be a pretty decent guy. Considering he was raised by a nut like angel that is pretty impressive
You saw that I said I don't hate Danny right? I scored it 9-3 Herrera, and it pissed me off he didn't get the nod, bad judging isn't Danny's fault. I have feeling that anytime Mayweather faces a bigger puncher you make the same excuse for him, power doesn't mean anything skills pay the bills, well Herrera showed far more skill that night and should have been given credit for it.
With that kind of scoring I would think it's you who give Mayweather every round based on skills...I sir, am barely of a fan of purist's at all. It really takes the best of them like Floyd and Rigo to even make my turn my head somewhat, and even then what I enjoy most about them is studying how they can be beat, I may root for them depending on who they fighting but, I am never devoted to a purist.
While not a big fan of Mayweather I do score most fights except for Maidana for him, which I gave it to Maidana by 1 point. It was me the made the Sweet Science guys are snobs thread, so I'm not the biggest purist either, I just thought Herrera outworked him, and I'm not a johnny come lately Herrera fan either, I've been a fan for a few years now.
I remember that thread, if you go back and look at what I said in there you'd never call me a purist guy again. Herrera definitely owned the theatre of display in that fight but, fights are scored only on effectiveness, other factors are only considered when who was more effective is difficult to determine. What Herrera did was pretty, easy to notice, and talk about but still not very effective. While what Danny landed was seldom ever clean so not that pretty or noticeable but he was landing plenty, and what he was landing was naturally much harder. I think people got carried away between Herrera's display and the commentating. The judges don't get carried away like that, they don't talk to each other and influence each other like commentator's with each other, and so on to the audience. They only sit quietly, tune everything out, and score the fight on effectiveness as best they can. Even if you thought the final scoring was preposterous, when the compubox tally came in you should have known there was much more to it, and that there was in fact, a very strong case for the fight going exactly as how the judges saw it.
Sorry I prejudged you, most Danny defenders on MVC threads lately are de facto Floyd guys. I get what your saying most of the rounds were very close, you gave the edge to Danny I gave it to Mauricio. Compubox isn't always right, if you watch the fight very closely a lot of Danny's power shots are either being blocked or missed, its one of those eye of the beholder fights fans can see what they want to see.
Yeah I'll agree with that last line, it really is one of those types of fights. Although, that's why I don't get this definitive notion coming from a lot of people that it was definitely a robbery. It was close fight in which the champ got the nod, while Herrera won the event. I don't mind the untrustworthy compubox argument either but, if compubox thought they saw something then the judges probably did too, they don't have the luxury of slo mo or compubox, they get one try, that's it, they as the compubox guys are humans.
Agree for the most part, I went into the fight expecting Herrera to outwork him like he did Ruslan, I actually had rewatched that fight, that I had on VHS (I have a full DVD setup as well) as preparation, and he did exactly what I was expecting him to do, because that's kind of what I was looking for. I had a pre fight Herrera bias. But I have to say a lot of the people jumping on Herrera's bandwagon post fight, who had no idea who he was did annoy slightly as well.
How did you call the Pac v Bradley 1?? :think You make strong cases for the judges, well maybe for yourself but judges are human too and they make mistakes. Sometimes big ones. They are not infallible and often times, especially lately, they do in fact get it wrong.
I think part of the problem for Danny is that he was so overwhelmingly favored, people didn't expect much from Herrera. I was one of the very few who said they expected a good challenge from Herrera. The fight also went much the way I expected on Herrera's end, Danny just don't do quite as good as I thought he would, that made it a close fight which you could read into what you may, and that I didn't expect. Of course, the vast majority was not expecting anything near that, and they quickly turned into a robbery situation which I don't agree with, they just had Herrera underestimated.
