Even the above would be an improvement on what we've got, at the moment out of a LOT of fights how many do we get the real sense of anticipation? maybe 2 or 3 max a year
The super 6 was good because when you think about it alot of them fights wouldnt have happened. The only problem was the gap in between the fights was too long.
Agree that it was spread out over too long a time period. The problem is the finances. Ideally it would be on 3 or 4 shows with a couple of Super 6 fights on each and an undercard but the wages bill would be crushing. At the end of it there still wasn't an undisputed champion, which I believe was the aim, however with 4 belts to accommodate and not all the champions signed up that was never going to happen. It did give rise to some really good fights that probably wouldn't have happened otherwise (Froch v Taylor for example) and I would welcome repeats at different weights. My guess is that nobody other than the boxers really made any money or it would have been done by now.
It's always going to be a nightmare to manage at that level again. Super 6 got off the ground because they had a division with 6 decent fighters, none of which were tied up with any domestic TV rights issues. Not the easiest to find nowdays without running into a TR/Goldenboy/Haymon or Matchroom/Allegedly issue.
The Super six revealed Ward to be the number one in the division. It gave us the insight into the nature of Carl Frochs strength and willingness to fight anyone anywhere. It will have made money otherwise it would have been scrapped before the final. It will never happen again because its just too complected to achieve successfully given that promoters can make money the easier way.
What about a group format like a World Cup. 4 fighters, 3 nights, co-main event each night. 3 points for a KO/TKO, 2 points for a decision and 1 point for a draw/NC. Top two have a rematch to decide the champ. Dream - mayweather, pacquio, khan, brook/porter HW - fury, wilder, stiverne, klitchko
I'd rather the fights just be made in a normal capacity. How many rounds a fight would your suggestion even be? As I wouldn't fancy a prizefighter type thing involving those guys at their stages of their careers. Better to see the best fights with the fighters in as peak fitness as possible and prepared.
