I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding GGG having a tune up fight at 168. But who would you suggest as a possible opponent? As a dominant MW champion, GGG can't fight some fringe 168 contender, can he?

Able Sanchez has been speaking recently about a GGG-vs-Ward fight, which does lead one to believe that GGG's camp are seriously considering a move to 168 (and sooner rather than later). It may not be a permanent move to 168, but 168 is where the big fights (and megabucks) are.

As a boxing fan, you may well agree that Ward is a far tougher test for GGG than Froch. And if Sanchez is serious, then perhaps Team GGG see a Froch fight as a huge box office payday against a past prime champion (who has looked vulnerable in his last fights) and the perfect litmus test (after all, if GGG cannot beat Froch he may as well not bother fighting Ward).

Were GGG to beat Froch, Team GGG would enter into negotiations with Ward as a fellow 168 champ AND the bigger box office draw, for a fight that all boxing fans would want to see.

That's what happens when a fighter constantly faces top opposition. Every great fighter in history went through hell and even through losses, that's what makes a great fighter. Ali, Leonard, Robinson, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Holyfield, Tyson, Lewis, Johnson, Marciano, LaMotta, Norton, Frazier, Pacquiao, Morales, Barrera, both Klitschkos, Marquez, Mayweather and many more.

Yes he can face a fringe contender and he most likely will to secure the big fight/payday against Froch. It wouldn't be wise from his team to send him out against someone extremely tough for his first performance at the weight. A fight with Groves should be a good one and since he's Froch's recent opponent it would easily gain the attention of casuals regardless of how ruined Groves is because casuals rarely(if ever) know about being ruined in the sport.

I won't really take Sanchez' words seriously, at least not for now, because GGG made it clear before his recent fight that he's staying at 160 and not bothering at 168 unless a major payday awaits. Hell GGG even said he's willing to move down if Mayweather would give him a payday.

Yes I definitely agree that Ward would be far more difficult for GGG compared to Froch. Ward would be a nightmare fight for GGG even if he manages to impress, shock everyone and defeat Froch. It's a stylistic nightmare for him but this is Boxing and anything is possible.

The casuals have no clue as to who Golovkin is. Most of Carl Froch twitter/facebook fans will be from when he fought Groves and it was hyped to the max.

Why do they keep banging on about Chavez? The guy has achieved nothing and is not worthy of a title shot. They know a Mexican is the only route Froch has to a Vegas fight.

Also Froch would gave to beat Ward to come close to Calzaghe. Calzaghes wins over Hopkins and Eubanks dwarf any of a Froch wins.

A fight with Chavez brings a lot of money and attention, which is what a fighter like Froch who's clearly retiring soon needs at this point in his career.

Do you think Junior wants it though?

He turned down a 12M guarantee to fight Golovkin, albeit with a contract extension. Let's see what he accepts to fight Froch if the fight comes off. I bet it will also include a contract extension.

Yes I'm sure Junior wants it. If Arum demands that he extends for a Froch fight too, then expect the fight to be dropped. It's more a case of Chavez Jr. wanting to be a free agent or look for other promoters than turn down fights.

Then I should expect the fight to be dropped. Junior wanted to fight Golovkin, the extension was the hiccup. Arum is a ruthless businessman, he's not letting Junior off the leash giving him millions for a one-off PPV fight with Froch only to see him jump ship. The extension will be part of the proposal.

I really can't see froch - golovkin happening, mainly because golovkin is (understandably) still waiting to inherit the 160 crown and make future big fights even more lucrative
and I seriously wouldn't want to see froch drop below 168 - it'll hurt him

Basically HBO have said GGG v Froch won't be a PPV fight.

Golovkin will only move up in weight right now for a PPV fight
Eddie Hearn has said for a fight in Vegas to make sense from a financial stand point it would have to be a dual PPV (in the UK and US).

For the fight to happen, one of them, or both of them, would have to raise their profiles in the US somehow. (i.e. if one of them lures Chavez in the ring first as that apparently is HBO PPV).

Froch said he was planning on fighting Chavez next.

Hagler fought at 160, nobody wanted him to move up to 168 or 175. STEVENSON WANTS TO FIGHT WARD ASAP AND WILL COME DOWN TO 168, WO WHAT'S WARD'S PROBLEM? THAT WOULD BE A BIG MONEY FIGHT, BUT WARD IS AFRAID......................

Depends on the marketing I guess, I heard Hearn (on IFLTV) was banding about 20-25,000 tickets (for Froch V DeGale).......would that make more than a GGG ppv.....you're probably right.
