I will admit I had Holmes hanging on to his title but if Witherspoon had got the nod no one could of complained , it would of been great to see how Holmes would of done in rematches against Witherspoon or the truth . Personally I see Holmes performing much against both in re-matches
Morrison-Holyfield, anywhere between 91-95... Leonard - Pryor, anywhere between 81-83.. Bowe-Lewis, 92-93 Mayweather-Paq, - 2009-present... Duran- Randy Shields tough early 80's welter went 13 rounds with Hearns... Michael Dokes-Larry Holmes, anytime in the 1980's....
[QUO J.1 .TE=halbrikj;16454480]There were lots of potentially great match ups over the last 30 years that unfortunately never took place. The following are some I was hoping for, not necessarily in this order: 1. George Foreman - Mike Tyson 2. Riddick Bowe - Mike Tyson 3. Mike Tyson - Michael Moorer 4. James Toney - Michael Moorer @ 75, cruiser or heavy 5. Roy Jones - Micheal Moorer @ 75, cruiser or heavy 6. Mike Tyson - James Toney 7. Julio Cesar Chavez - Simon Brown @ 47 8. Julio Cesar Chavez - Terry Norris @ 47 9. Julio Cesar Chavez - Vinny Pazienza @ 47 10. Pernell Whitaker - Terry Norris @ 47 or 54 11. Roy Jones - Nigel Benn @ 60 or 68 12. Roy Jones - Gerald McClellan @ 60 or 68[/QUOTE] 1. Foreman... if then Tyson. 2. Bowe- no... Tyson 3. Tyson 4. Toney 5. Jones 6. Tyson 7. Chavez 8. Norris 9,Chavez 10 Whittaker 11.Jones, 12J0nes
I prefer Chavez vs. Sal Sanchez. It may have come about too, had Sanchez lived on and stepped into the 130 pound division at some point. Another would be Azumah Nelson vs. Chavez at 130, and also Nelson vs. Brian Mitchell also at 130. For me, Norris was just too big for Julio. I don't think it would have been that competitive.
The one that always gets me thinking involving Chavez is imagine if Whitaker/RamirezI was on the level! Chavez/Whitaker at 135; Chavez at the absolute height of his powers and Whitaker having the one thing Taylor showed could cause him real problems; speed! And talking of Taylor; I would loved to of seen him face off with his buddy/stable mate Sweet Pea in 89.
On Oct. 23, 1994, Herbie Hide was supposed to defend his WBO heavyweight title against Tommy Morrison in Hong Kong. On the same card, Frank Bruno was scheduled to fight Ray Mercer. I ordered the fight, and when the show was supposed to start, a message appeared on the screen saying the whole card was cancelled. No reason was given. This was before most people had home computers or internet access, so I had no idea what happened until I received a copy of Boxing News magazine a couple of weeks later. Apparently, the guaranteed money for the fighters hadn't been paid. So the show was called off two hours before it was scheduled to start. At that time, I thought Hide-Morrison and Bruno-Mercer would've been great. Those are two fights that were signed, scheduled and the fighters were ready to go ... that never happened. I wish I could've seen them.
