He has better wins than your #1 and #2, actually most of your list, beat your #4. And unlike your #1 was the true lineal undisputed LHW Champion who took on all comers.

Anybody with youtube can see one of the finest Cleveland style fighters of all time. Great defense and slickness.

No offense, but even if the context of this list are fighters that fought from 1940 and on, I still wouldn't have Floyd or Roy in a top 10 list. That's ludicrous. Floyd would probably be in the top 15-20 range though of best fighters from post 1940 for me.

My top 10 from fighters who fought from 1940 and on would be:

    Ray Robinson
    Henry Armstrong
Muhammad Ali (I always believed he fought the better competition compared to Louis.)
    Willie Pep
    Roberto Duran
    Joe Louis
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Archie Moore
    Marcel Cerdan
    Monzon or Hagler

There are a lot of guys that were omitted because their careers were over before 1940 such as Canzoneri, Ross, Greb, McLarnin, Gans, Langford, Dempsey, Tunney, Ketchel, Walker, Wilde, etc that you can make a claim for in the top 10.

Floyd in my eyes is one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport. I feel he would've been an elite fighter in any era and would've have a long career due to his defensive oriented style. But there's a LOT of fighters who have accomplished a great deal that can't be overlooked just because they haven't been active in over 50 years. I don't think Floyd would have fought past lightweight in the old era's primarily because the WW's in the 40's-60's were really big men. I think he would've fought at FW and LW as a pro had he fought back in the 40's or 50's.

I still would place Floyd right now somewhere in my top 25 of all time of the sport (pre/post 1940). Depending on who he fights for his last couple bouts, he has a good chance to climb up the rankings significantly if he took on and beat- let's say Cotto for the MW championship and Pacman at 147-150. Those 2 wins could have him catapult a few spots for me. But he's certainly an ATG already.

this is why i laugh at old-timers when they say boxing was better back in the day... especially a dyed in the wool mediocrity like maxim...here is maxim's record...feast your eyes.

he's not even top 10 at LHW much less all time.

Yep, a very past prime LHW Maxim frustrating and outpointing the future HW Champion of the World. Maxim fighting not unlike Hopkins and Ward with those spoiling skills.

Quite the record. Over 115 fights in a 17 year career. That's over 6 fights a year. How many fights has your boys had?

Easy top 10 LHW, one of the greats, and the Hall of Fame agrees. Maxim was a hardcore Cleveland product who mixed it up with everybody regardless of color, class, or creed from 160-up and as often as possible.

floyd already beat cotto in a big way...why would he fight him again? just because cotto beat up on some cripple the other day? floyd wanted to fight pacquiao, but pacquiao refused to take the PED test.

I understand that boxers are like artists...they're only appreciated after they're gone...and floyd being around today and being a controversial figure with many people turned off by his abrasive persona and simply refusing to acknowledge his greatness, means that some will object to him being ranked #2 pfp of all time.

but to me, there's no question that FMJ is that great...one of the problems with floyd is that people simply don't truly understand how great this guy is...they just refuse to see it, to acknowledge it... floyd is more than elite...he's truly special. i think other fighters know how great he is, because they have to compete with him. that's why garcia and the others giggle and beam like schoolgirls when floyd talks to them and that's why they whisper his name like in awe..but the fans have no idea. they're hidden from the reality of what floyd has truly accomplished.

sports analysts know how great floyd is...that's why he's such a crossover star. floyd is so great that i don't think there is another human in history who could ever accomplish what he has. the man is above normal human achievement.
