I think Tyson would eventually run him down.

I cant really agree with this.

Tyson KO1 (or 2,3,4), is obviously a possibility, as it is with Tyson vs Anyone and as happened in tyson Spinks and many other fights.

But, if we assume that Tunney gets through those first three rounds, much like he did with the older Dempsey, then he must be able to at least take Tyson's power a little bit.

If he gets through those first three rounds, then surely he must be landing his right hand and possibly jab from a distance, to keep Tyson at bay. So it is an even fight, and this means that if Tunney is still in the fight, he will almost certainly be dominating the scorecards (again like in Tyson Dempsey) and almost certainly will be doing plenty of damage, himself to Tyson.

Common sense suggests that as the fight goes on, Tyson will have to slow and tire and I dare say, that even a younger Tyson if frustrated and dominated would be likely to start to load up on his punches and reduce the combinations. Once this happens, he really does become little chance of catching Tunney.

the other problem is that even if he does catch Tunney, Tunney showed against Dempsey that even when and if hurt, he would continue to move and be hard to hit, and would also actually get up off the floor. In circumstances where Tunney has landed consistently through the fight i dont think he can finish Tunney in the later rounds (good as he was when going for kill and having his man hurt).

I really cant see this fight being anything but an early KO victory for Mike or a dominant Tunney performance possibly even with a stoppage in the later rounds.

Tyson quickly. Bad matchup for Tunney. Tyson's fast feet close the gap on Tunney and he lands the heavy artillery on him. Tyson KO 3. This is probably the worst possible matchup for Gene. Gene would do well against slow movers, and would even be competitive with Ali. Tyson the fastest and most powerful of the swarmers is his kryptonite.

I read through some of our old exchanges from about 5 or 6 years ago the other day for some reason. Actually think the exchange was a disagreement over Tyson.

I was actually tempted to start this post with an intimidatory insult for something to do, just to see if you still had the fire in the belly. No need though, i see it is still there :good:good:good:happy:good

I dont know Quick Tillis ran his ass off and went the distance, I favor Tyson who has more wins at heavyweight but if we judge by the Dempsey fight Gene may be very competitive but he would not survive the long count under modern rules.....Tyson and Dempsey fought a lot a like but it was a rusty Dempsey that fought Gene so I am leaning with Mike but Gene may be rough

Tyson was much faster than the version of Dempsey that Gene fought. I like Tunney I think he has the best legs and mobility of a pre Ali heavy. As far as lateral movement. I just don't think he is big enough to absorb Tyson's bombs or fast enough to consistently get away from peak Tyson.

    Tyson KO 6 ...

Gene was a good fighter but c'mon folks, he was too little, small for Tyson, and didn't have the strength to keep Tyson off him, maybe for a few rounds and that's it...

Tunney would be fighting for his life for 4 or 5 rounds, a game of cat and mouse, and then Tyson would.catch him and knock him out...

Mike is just too big and strong...

Tyson would crack scrawny Gene's ribs and stop him within two rounds. Laughable to suggest otherwise, imo.

Gene would give Tyson a thorough boxing lesson before stopping a frustrated, out-classed Iron Mike.
