I agree. Wlad is no Grant or Golota, or even Ruddock..but if Lewis can't go into seek and destroy mode and win, then he'd likely have to win on the inside. Over the last 25-30 seconds of round 6 against Vitali Lewis had him pretty hurt. That upper cut was also something else.
I have seen a trend with Dino pulling ducks, but this sounds like it could be his biggest duck yet. How embarrassing
For me, Lewis big. Wlad has nowhere to hide against Lewis; he is not safe at any range. Broken down into their constituent elements, Wlad compares well with Lewis. I think he has a better jab and a right hand on par with Lewis. Left hooks are both very good etc. etc. But of course boxing doesn't work like that. Where I think Wlad struggles is that some of his tricks of the trade, like hooking his left hand around an opponent to pull them off-balance as he retreats, or throwing those long arms around his opponent if he misses a right hand, won't work against Lewis. Or at least, they won't be nearly as effective as they have been against lesser foes. Another problem for Wlad is that he goes defensive when tagged solidly. He is not interested in counter-punching after being hit hard, and he is not interested in fighting back. He seeks to grab, to hold on. Giving Lewis that sort of initiative is not wise, imo. Lewis is Wlad's size and about as strong (or thereabouts) and won't be so easy to subdue in clinches. I just don't see Wlad finding that comfort zone against Lewis as he does against other opponents. If Wlad cannot establish his jab to set up his other punches, if he cannot establish his rhythm which is absolutely vital to his success, he is finished. And against Lewis, I don't think he could. He would not be able to establish a consistency, and Lewis with break his rhythm and exploit his weaknesses. Lewis inside 6.
Wlad could have Steward in his corner and Lewis would still knock him out and early. Lewis would do what he did with most dangerous guys, hed rush out and get their respect and/or take them out immediately, this adds up to a nightmare scenario for Wladmir who does have his panic attacks and hugs/clinches when in danger. Imagine Lewis throws one of his dirty uppercuts in the clinch? Lewis has more strings to his bow(e)
I'll stick with the guy with the better defense, mobility and jab. The same guy with the vaunted right hand that is the same punch that has iced Lewis twice in past. On the question of competition Wlad is getting underrated. He may not have as good of a resume as Lewis but his resume is still very good. He fights many top fighters in their absolute Prime- Haye, Povetkin, Byrd 1, ibrigamov, Brock, Pulev, Peter 1, Chagaev even Thompson while older had not lost to an opponent other than Wlad in ten years. He also has fought prob the most southpaws of any champion in history Byrd 2x, Thompson 2x, Chagaev, ibrigamov, sanders just to name a few.
My partner pays for me to watch Box Nation otherwise I wouldn't catch his bouts, she likes the fights. I'll say this about the Klit Bros ,they always conduct themselves like champions.
You miss my point Against those large guys Lewis came out firing. I don't suggest they were in anyway like Wlad.
It wasnt meant to be a comparison, it was an indication of how he approached fights with big heavyweights.atsch
Bombs from Lewis would be flying at Wlad's head like heat seeking missiles....It wouldn't bode too well for Wlad....like being against a Corrie Sanders on steroids...and LL was much better than Sanders.
The same Corrie sanders Lewis never fought? Lewis never faced a lefty of significance pro or amateur.
