People insisting Porter took more than a couple of rounds - please tell me which he clearly and undeniably won?

...and please don't say "well he ought to have been divvied up some of the close rounds because there were many" because that is so not how boxing works. You can have a bunch of close rounds all shaded by one bloke. You don't need to kick the opponent a pity round here or there just to reward him for making them all competitive. (and really, for long stretches Porter didn't even do that IMO - lots of aggressive flash with no substance, landing absolutely nothing clean except the odd body taps which in no way matched the quality or quantity of Brook's counters if you actually bother tallying up clean work in between the fouls both ways)

 

CompuBox statistics

Brook landed 158 of 441 punches (36 percent)

Porter connected on 154 of 626 blows (25 percent)

 

I sincerely doubt their connects were that close and that is even including Porter's body shots and in acknowledgment of his much higher work rate.

Another case of the human error that makes Comp-U-Box nothing more than a mildly useful reference. That smacks of a lot of blocked or illegal shots being scored for Porter.

 

That's whad Dan Rafael wrote in his article. I'm never sure how accurate they are either. Even with those stats it shows for all of Porters work he wasn't really getting much out of it in comparison to Brook more intelligent work.

Compubox is accurate for jabs thrown.. clean power punches landed/missed.

Criteria for "Boxing".

The ratio is accurate 90% of the time.


He did more.. he did less.


You gotta out do the other guy in landed.. dodged.. thrown and % to win a boxing match if there's 0 knockdowns.


Not always but those are the criteria.


You can win a fight by landing/throwing less with more power.


But the guy better have missed more.

 

If you're using the human goggles then it's just who's doing more for the landed.. thrown.. missed.. unless power is an overwhelming factor.

% is just something calculated at the end.


Even though you can probably just visual it as % = waste.


A fighter can throw and land one punch and get a hunard.

 

Brook 118-110 easy fight to score, Porters wild flailing on the inside was totally ineffective and neutralised, Brook landed all the clean shots Porter landed nothing
