Maybe there was the odd exception, but for the vast, vast majority, these guys were full time athletes.

There was no "professionalism" in the Soviet Union, but you can guarantee that the old USSR soccer players werent knocking off work early to go train with their club or going around the world playing with the USSR.

The glories of a completely centralized system.

Not only do you not know about this specific issue.

You have no idea how a centralised economic system works. All workers are employed by government, there isnt such a thing as private enterprise where people are "employed" by an employer in a modern western free market(esque) system.

As such "jobs" as you understand the term, dont exist. A govt official could tell a factory worker, "tomorrow you're going to work on the fields."

Theres a reason why theres the old Soviet saying of "You pretend to pay us, we pretend to wiork"

Also, just look at my last link I provided from a guy who was actually in the Soviet system.

    http://news.google.com/newspapers?n...C5UAAAAIBAJ&sjid=-IwDAAAAIBAJ&pg=4133,5653593

If you think that the players who played European championships with Spartak Moscow and who play in the World cup with the USSR, competing against Pro teams from all over the world, had to ask their "boss" for time off, you're an idiot, who has no concept of Soviet sports or the Soviet Union in general

Ive also provided entire academic papers on the subject.

the Cuban/Old fashioned Soviet system was based on full time athletes looked after by the government.

They didnt have "jobs". They were full time athletes.

I had assumed EVERYONE knew this as it wasnt exactly kept secret.

Every Cuban/Soviet defector said the same thing.

One guy who may have had an exceptional talent in his field doesnt prove anything.

You really think all those Soviet/Cuban athletes winning golds and competing at the highest level in soccer, competing against full time pros, were actually knocking off work early fronm the factory to get some extra training?

You think the central authorities would go to the trouble of having teams on systematic steroid programs and have them working in fields and factories for 12 hours a day?

    Just use common sense.

Then you can look up all the actual evidence out there.

Im really shocked that this is coming as a surprise to people. Its common knowledge that they were full time athletes.

Just read "In the Red Corner" by John Duncan, which is a book about Cuban boxing as told by a journalist who went to live there for a year.

And the Cubans copied their entire system from the Soviets. Many of the early Cuban boxing coaches were actually from the Soviet Union.

Yeah ravings which the rest of the world already knows.

Read a book you moron. Go to a boo store or library and take out ANY book on sports in the soviet union and come back to me.

In the Red Corner is a good start, even if its not specifically about teh Soviet Union, but about Cuba which based its system on the Soviet Union.

    Ive linked academic articles.

Ive linked first hand accounts from former soviet athletes.

If you need help with any big words, just ask.

It would make things more exciting, that's about it. As far as dominating or taking over, it's really unknown.

Whatever buddy. Having dealt with your childish Limerick insults before, you dont have a moral leg to stand on.

Read a book and come back to me. Ive given you the name of a perfect book for it. Pretty easy read.

Until you educate yourself on the matter, please dont comment on things you know nothing about,

    Off track?

Talking about a book that deals with the Cuban boxing system, a nation that built its entire system on the Soviet union in a thread about boxing in the Soviet union???

    Yeah, way off track:roll::patsch

Seriously educate yourself. read literally one book on Soviet/Cuban athletes. Until then, I really dont see why I should listen to you on anything related to this subject matter.

    Do you?

Maybe even read a little bit on Centralised economies and how they operate.

You seem to forget that Cuba was in the soviet sphere of influence and they built their entire athletics program off the Soviet, complete with Soviet coaches.

But please feel free to read a book that specifically deals with Soviet era athletes, and let me know how that goes

    Facts Ive provided
    Academic papers
    First hand accounts
The fact that my view is the commonly held view

    Facts youve provided:
    None

And Im not American, you knew that and you still made that dumb reference...
