There was a big difference between the Willard that beat Johnson and the Willard that lost to Dempsey. Jess was in awesome shape against Johnson, but he was in poor condition in 1919.

He was pretty fast. He dropped Tunney with a quick 7 punch combo.

And that is the old, slow, shot version in his last fight...

Very quick, and with feet only second to Ali.

My answer is yes. Dempsey was quick of both hand and foot. Nowhere near close to Ali or Jones though

Fast handspeed, and footspeed. Would've been entertaining to see what PED's would've done for him. Unethical as hell, but entertaining

I have that fight and honestly he threw one punch I couldn't see no matter how many times I rewinded the fight. I know he hit him because Firpo was knocked down, but be damned if I could see him throw the punch. Maybe it was a bad angle or something but it sure as hell looked fast to me.

    What fight did you watch?

cause I have the Firpo fight and he looked both aggressive and damn fast as far as I'm concerned.

Dempsey was more about the transference of weight, he certainly was no arm puncher.
