They say you're only as good as your last fight and against Malignaggi Porter looked really good.

 

I'm not shocked.

 

And now people are underrating Porter.

He's still better than Maidana.

 

maidana put up a decent fight against the best in our era(so far), porter got whooped by a decent boxer with a stiff jab.

 

Let's put it in more relative terms instead of exaggerations.

Porter beat Alexander comfortably. Maidana got a complete schooling from Alexander.

Maidnana took advantage of Floyd because of his passive style. He couldn't do the same Alexander because Alexander constantly beat him to the punch.

Maidana's performance against Floyd has more to do with how overrated Floyd is and how susceptible he is against good pressure fighters.

It's plain for everyone to see. Alexander beat Maidana 10-0. Porter beat Alexander 8-4. It's easy to see who is the better fighter.

These triangulations of boxing fights/fighters don't always work

Most would assume Devon would do worse against mayweather than maidana

And porter would get schooled to **** by mayweather

But Devon Defo worked up maidana I think now it would be different

 

Porter crowds his shots too much IMO.
Doesn't give himself enough room to work, and allows his opponent to clinch him too easy.

 

Nobody can prove that Maidana is better than Porter. There is no measurable metric and there is no logic behind it. Just because he did well against Floyd didn't mean anything.

In this case, triangle theory works fine. They're both pressure fighters. They both fought Alexander with different outcomes. If they were different types of fighters, then I can make an exception, but in this case, they're BOTH PRESSURE FIGHTERS.

Without using Alexander as a measuring stick. I can use Broner and Malignaggi as a class of opponents as a measuring stick. Base on Broner vs Malignaggi, one can say they're in a similar class because they had a close fight.

Porter vs Malignaggi was a complete destruction.
Maidana vs Broner was impressive, but not a complete destruction.

When Porter and Maidana fought a similar class of fighters, Porter was by far the more impressive fighter. And base on common opponents, Porter comes out way ahead.

No matter how you measure it. Porter >>> Maidana.

 

Yeah I mean tbh until they fight it's all our judgements base upon the evidences we present. Maybe after his loss and maidana's most likely schooling in sept they can fight in dec/jan? I would love to see that, could be a KO there
