i do not think tyson got slower in his later fights,i have seen in recently hit the bag and was fast as ****! i think he started losing because more than anything he lost his motivation, stopped moving head/slipping punches and threw single shots(no more combos)to the head(see razor ruddick) forgetting the body.

Dempsey was closer to 6'1.5 and Marciano was 5"11 so it looks about right. I know people who were friends with Rocky, he never stood tall but he was about 5"11 when he stood tall. I met Dempsey when he was old seemed like at least 6'2 but he was wearing shoes and he stood tall with head up

Frazier seemed about 5"10 but freaky wide and thick head and neck. Tyson was about 5"10-5'11 but another scary dude

So basically what you're saying is that he didn't have the power to knockout people with single shots when his speed and surprise of attack disappeared?

Marciano never had much of either attribute yet still had the power to finish people to the end of his career.

But Marciano had a very short career, starting in his mid 20's and retiring at 32. Tyson was a prodigy who kept at it until middle age... that kinda skews things... at least to the objective observer.

The last thing to go on a fighter is their power so people say, maybe it was Tyson's speed and surprise of attack that contributed to most of his knockouts because he didn't look all too devastating towards the end of his career.

KO's are more about timing than power. Timing goes quickly as you age, as you take punishment... and if you spend 4 years away from the sport...

Well I don't think Marciano had brilliant timing and he got the job done again and again, both hit mighty hard nevertheless.

I can't call this a good post because though undeniably true, you should not have had to make it, because it is glaringly self evident to all but a ******. On second thoughts, yeah it was necessary.

He probably lost a bit of speed but not down to the level of Marciano.

Foreman had poor timing before the retirement, and it remained poor after his return.

Two completely different fighters with different skillsets and a different gameplan.

It's probably Tyson. At the end of the day, what does it matter though -- there have been dozens of heavyweights that hit harder than both with one punch and they never amounted to anything close to these two.

not to be augmentative but i have many (some very old) books that all have Dempsey at 6'3/4" and in the photo looks more like three inches or 3.5 inches taller than Rocky, plus as i am sure you know,we shrink a little with age and i am sure Jack is into his 60"s at least.also rocky new biographer stated 5'9" it would make sense for a heavyweight to lie to appear bigger like Frazier did.http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/03/6a/89/036a89aa720c3cfe5d1fea69fc6b1e7f.jpg look at this pic rocky appears at least 3 inches shorter.
