It might not be about money.

I can afford a PPV but this fight feels unnecessary. Mayweather is a the best in the world right now and at the end of his career, I'd rather not see him rehash opponents.

I can afford to buy a ppv every day of the week and twice on friday, 365 days a year. But I'll be damned if Floyd gets my money so he can throw it at some hooker's ass and keep avoiding the fighters the world wants him to fight.

Gamboa on the other hand, I will always buy his ppv. Best boxer currently fighting.

    where do you live?
    and what's your nationality/heritage?

also, how people spend their money has nothing to do with how someone else spends the proceeds of that

I am an eastern european mix from toronto, canada. I love boxing and am a huge fan, but haven't bought anything by mayweather or pac since 2009, when they first disappointed me with their failed negotiations.

While you're right about the fighters getting to do what they want with their money, I think its downright masochistic to pay someone so he can flaunt it in your face and think he is better than you in the process (same reason why I don't buy rap albums).

No reason making stuff up online, I am the same in person as on here. Boxing greatest talents depend on our money to survive, so anything that Gamboa, Rigondaux, GGG, Kovalev, Lomachenko are in, I buy. They fight anyone and everyone, they go for the best opponents possible, and I like to contribute to have them keep doing what they do.

Mayweather is too scene at the moment: most of the buys aren't from boxing fans but rather from people that want to be part of the crowd. He became a brand, and does not give a **** what people want. Same with Pac, to a lesser extent with Cotto. Out of all the stars, Canelo and Klitschko are the only ones that haven't gotten starstruck yet, and are fighting the guys the public wants them to fight (Lara/Pulev)

I am not pulling down Floyd. I have a collection of his fights and up until 2009 I bought all his ppvs. I especially liked how he chased Mosley and how he was open to fight anyone, anywhere, like a true warrior.

Then as he got older his personality evolved, he stopped caring about the sport and started caring about the money, ruining it for me. The Pac fiasco got me convinced that the only reason these two prima donnas are not fighting each other is that both have fan bases that would buy any ppv with their idols, so I removed myself from that crowd.

Mayweather set a dangerous precedent, that you can become a multi-millionaire while avoiding top competition. I hope this trend doesn't catch on, but you can already see it rubbing off on young fighters that are influenced by him. Broner had one bad night with Maidana and switched to an all journeyman diet, yet still expects to be handsomely paid.

As for Gamboa: I just really like his boxing style and his fearless attitude. Him and the other fighters I listed, they chase down dangerous opponents, regardless of size. To me that is what boxing is all about, seeking new challenges and rising to the occasion.

    fair enough
the business side of boxing isn't going away though

gamboa had a lot of good momentum a few years ago, but then he disappeared
seemed unusual that you would mention him alongside active fighters like kovalev and golovkin now

What is your opinion on Top Rank, Hbo & pacquiao vs chris:rofl

Please tell me why they are so much better. I get the sense you only think that because pac is with top rank. But go ahead and prove your points.

I just cannot buy into a fight where I know all of the cards are stacked against the contender.

Floyd has great skills , but it was the bull**** regarding the gloves and referee that turned me against this rematch.

Cotto will have to wear pillows once again, and he will probably be required to have one arm tied behind his back. Void owns the judges, referee, boxing commission, etc., that fight is a waste of time. Pac Vs. Void is the fight everyone wants to see........................
