Bruno kills herbie. herb is too small and wwas lucky the wbo was aroun to award him a lesser title at hw.
Big Frank outboxed Lennox Lewis much more convincingly that Vitali did and rocked Tyson in the first round. He disposes of WBOgus Champion Hide easily and quickly.
yes Bruno did much better against lennox than vitali. vitali killed little chinless Herb, Bruno would despatch hmi the same or quicker. And he'd do it in style too saying something like "You can run but you cant Hide, Herbie hurhurhur" "You a world champion, Herb? Pull the other one hurhurhur...wbo? wats that, an aftershave."
Those arguing the point for the bum Hide have to consider Witherspoon, Smith, Lewis and Tyson all stopped Bruno, all were huge punchers. I dont feel Herbie was that good a heavyweight to outdo any of the above. In fact, Herbie was ****
Vitali has a lot in common with Bruno. Both won the WBC title, Both were winning the fight before being stopped by Lewis Both fought **** poor opposition Both lost to the best guys they fought. Both have an amazing ko %tage (ties in with point 3) Infact, all but 2 of Brunos victories came by KO and one of those guys was Oliver Mcall Oh and Bruno>Mcall>Lewis>Vitali
Hide certainly has the power to hurt Bruno but Bruno certainly has the power to hurt the brittle chinned hide . Hide is obviously much quicker than Bruno but hide is not hard to hit and Bruno's jab will certainly keep hide careful and Bruno will catch hide after a jab with a right hand and while hide is hurt Bruno will club him into unconsciousness for a KO victory
Bruno isn't on Bowe's level for agression or durability. And Hide stoll the first two rounds from him and had him out on his feet at one point. I'd still favor Frank but its not a given and certainly not an easy proposition.
I think this fight comes down to who is mentally stronger. And somewhat surprisingly the edge goes to the 'Bomber'. Bruno went through his demons when he lacked confidence, using up too much nervous energy despite his fitness. But when comfortable with his opponent, he could do 10/12 rounds if need be. He did not fear Joe Bugner, and won even though the fight went into the second half of the bout. He beat 'The Truth' in ten. And it was only the realization that he finally had a title in his grasp that the last couple rounds were real edgy against McCall. Although Hide had power and speed, Bruno would not be worried because of his size. I think Bruno in his pomp would believe he could eventually catch up with Hide. Herbie on the other hand did not look comfortable against the big men anywhere near their pomp. From the start he looked like he was just in the Bowe fight to lose with his pride in tact. And despite being a favourite to beat the then unproven Vitali he simply looked on in awe. I think Bruno wins in about four, maybe a bit longer because Hide shows some bottle.
The flip side is, Bruno could fight well (before mental issues/stamina) kicked in. Also Bowe was pretty much asleep for the first couple of rounds against Hide. He did 'warm' to the task afterwards though. I think Bruno does Hide and early. The longer this goes on, the more likley Bruno is one punch away from being stopped. But then again, Mcall hit pretty hard and had a good chin and Bruno beat him.
disappointing to hear so many posters calling hide sh1t. he was a great mover with speed and power and a real eye for the chin, plus he was exciting to watch which is rare in todays heavies. problem was he was a very small heavyweight in an era of giants. that doesn't mean he had a poor chin or no skills, far from it. he was just so much smaller physically. be fair people
This one will divide opinion. I'm pretty confident on Bruno though. If Frank wasn't up against someone of similar size and power he generally walked through his opponent. As previously stated Frank only lost at the highest level. In Tyson 1 he performed well in defeat for a while. In his fight with Lewis he matched Lennox for 6 rounds(no mean achievement) In his loses to Smith and Witherspoon he was 'winning' the fights for a long way. Tyson apart i can't recall any fighter outboxing Frank from the start and he fought a variety of fighters of different styles and levels. Hide doesn't strike me as having anything that would buck that trend. He could hit sure enough so he isn't without a chance. On reflection my honest hunch is that Frank deals with this without too much fuss. A couple of big rights make sure this ends within 4 or 5 rounds.(it could be even quicker).
In simple terms its a big hard hitting vulnerable guy vs a small hard hitting vulnerable guy I pick the big guy, who happens to be slightly better school and performed slightly better against better opposition
Lets be honest though Bowe was ripe to be taken on that night vs Hide and Hide put on a terrible display getting exhausted to the point where he was falling all over the ring in the early rounds. I think Bruno would have a good chance against Bowe on that night who looked very sloppy and was over weight.
