No one has made a compelling argument yet for Michael Spinks beating Jersey Joe Walcott. I don't see it happening.

    Furthermore,

Why do people think 200lb HGH Spinks is too fast for Moore? Archie was not a slow fighter, and he defeated a lot of very good fast fighters. Archie brings plenty of tools to the fight that will allow him to beat Spinks. Archie's handspeed, power, craftiness, finishing ability, defense, boxing skills, and stamina are all going to be huge problems for Spinks.

He looked pretty damm good on June 17th, 1954. Not prime, but showed he had enough left in the tank that night to trouble most great fighters.

Not true .. How long would that Charles have lasted against Louis, Liston, Lewis, Tyson or Wlad ? He matched up well against a slow starting, small swarmer .. I think Frazier would have crushed him the way he did Ellis ..

Spinks rythm breaking hurkey jurkey style would not have bothered Larry Holmes any more than Ossie Ocasio did when he was younger. Prime Holmes nails spinks to the floor because he can keep up. So yes, the pace of Spinks had a lot more effect because Larry could not get set or time him at that stage. Slow that tempo down a tad and older Holmes absolutely beat Spinks.

Of course Walcott, Charles and Moore (15 round experts that they were) were greater technicians than Marciano.

You agree they gave Marciano life and death even though you admit Rocky was "younger.fresher, stronger, and more durable". Technique alone is not giving a younger, fresher, stronger and more durable #1 rated contender life and death unless they can keep up. These three could keep up and had technique and experience on Rocky. They give Spinks an absolute nightmare.

Because Spinks was much faster and younger not to mention far better than the heavyweights Archie defeated .. I'm not saying Moore did not have a shot by any means .. Moore was very smart, tricky and a big puncher still .. I just favor Spinks against that Moore ... I would not favor him over a prime Moore at 175 ..

    Neither do I.
At lightheavyweight Spinks did not beat anyone as good as Walcott, Moore or Charles. That takes nothing away from the champion Spinks was at lightheavy it's just true.

Moving up to out speed an ageing champion who had reached the stage where each challenge was getting hard is one thing. Beating Tangstad and part timer Cooney is another thing. Charles, Walcott and Moore completely different ballpark.

Moore was at the top of his game and just had victory's over ATG light heavy Maxim and Harold Johnson. He also KO'd high ranking Bob Baker and beat Nino Valdes 2X In Moores last 50 fights leading to Marciano he had 1 DQ and 1 controversial loss that he avenged by KO, after the Marciano beating Archie still complied a 38-4-2 record

Spinks beats all of Dempsey's challengers...except Tunney. That would be pick' em for me. Walcott, Charles, and Moore even the older versions give Spinks major trouble...Overall Spinks would do well when judged on a head to head basis...But if he had to run the gauntlet of either Dempsey's or Marciano's challengers, he might come up with some unexpected losses.

Tunney v Spinks is a clash of two heavyweight champs with the smallest resume at heavyweight.

Great fighters who both got their shot at the right time.

    1. Who did Spinks beat at heavyweight that makes you so confident? Larry Holmes was 36 years old, had been given a gift decision over the unknown carl wiliams months earlier, and there are legitimate questions if Spinks actually deserved the decision.

    2. So in your opinion, when were Archie Moores prime years at 175?
