Also Wlad - Wach was a carbon copy of Holmes-Cobb beating. Like Holmes, Wlad gave his limited, but iron-chinned opponent one of the worst beatings in HW history. How Wach never went down is beyond me.
Cobb took more of a beating than Briggs:deal Simply because Cobb took it for 15 rounds, Briggs Only 12, those last 3 rounds when you are too tired to keep your arms up to protect yourself, make a big difference, thats 9 more minutes of inhumane punishment...
Some non-generic matches to try and counter act some of the dog **** picks in this thread.... Pacquiao vs Rios and Margarito Katsidis vs Amonsot Yordan vs Caballero
As I recall, he told Pavlik that he needed to stay at middleweight, because he didn't have light heavyweight power. Then he said something like, he wasn't gloating, he was trying to help him. He's a good middleweight but doesn't have it at the higher weight and bigger guys would take advantage of that, since he wouldn't be able to hurt them. But didn't Sergio Martinez break him before that? I remember hearing that after that loss Pavlik started drinking pretty hard and went to pieces.
It didn't go the distance, but Jess Willard got a worse beating in 3 rounds than most get in 15 round beatdowns.
In tribute to Cobb, he could turn a phrase better than he could throw a punch. (When informed that Howard Cosell quit boxing after his fight with Larry Holmes) "My gift to boxing." (Asked about a possible rematch against Larry Holmes) "I dont think his hands can take the abuse" "Larry Holmes didn't beat me he just won the first 15 rounds" Mills Lane stopped the action to ask Cobb if he was okay in a fight in Reno. When Cobb replied that he was, Lane asked him, "Do you know where you are?" Cobb replied, "I am in Reno, getting the **** kicked out of me." Versus Larry Holmes, the action was stopped so the ref could check on Cobb. He asked him, "Do you see me?" Cobb replies, "Yeah. You're white. It's the black guy I'm worried about." "I stuck to my game plan -- stumbling forward and getting hit in the face." "They called me a fat, cowardly, cocaine-snorting, fight-fixing cheat," Who they calling fat!"
Frazier - Ali I. If I remember correctly, from the opening bell Frazier was all over Ali. Round after round of left hooks. Ali took a besting every round.
It was Frazier who actually spent weeks in the hospital after the fight, it definitely took its toll on them in the long run without a doubt.
