Jermain Taylor is going to fight Sam Soliman for his IBF title, who do you think will win? Soliman turned down the offer from team GGG because the offer to fight Taylor was more financially rewarding. I think Taylor has a weak chin but he can still outbox almost anyone at 160lbs.
the fight with Taylor itself isn't more financially rewarding, per Golovkin's manager, but fighting someone before triple G may end up being so.
I think Taylor should win this fight and then he could fight Quillen and win or lose retire, Taylor should definitely stay away from GGG.
Taylor-GGG right now is like booking a live snuff film, and I have no urge to see it. I usually root for Taylor, but I'd rather Soliman win and see Soliman-GGG as a unification fight.
It will be a gross fight. Soliman will eek it out early and then towel Taylor up a little late when he is tired. JT probably would have knocked him out 06-07.
JT would have knocked a lot of people out in 06-07. Now? Ouch. Also remember Stevens is quite likely to become IBF mandatory. Stevens vs guys like GGG, Rubio, Rosado, Johnson, Lemiuex, Murray, win or lose are bound to be very entertaining affairs. Stevens vs a shot guy with brain bleed history? No thank you.
Soliman by stoppage. Guy can throw over a thousand punches in a fight, and finish just as strong as he started. I hate to say it but Taylor is done. I know there's a lot of nostalgia, there's the feel good story... I like the guy too. But he gassed out and was nearly stopped in a 10 rounder by a regional Minnesota fighter named Caleb Truax... a guy who fights in his backyard and needs robbery wins to beat the likes of an old Matt Vanda. Soliman's goofy, not a huge one punch guy... But he's as good as he's ever been right now and he's had world class wins for 12 years. Be beat Bika in 2002, gave a Ronald Wright straight off one of his best career performances against Trinidad absolute hell and just this past year went to Germany to beat up Felix Sturm twice. He gets it done, ugly and unappleaing or not. He's a world class fighter at the moment. Taylor is FNF level at this stage of his career.
Soliman's camp was in talks with Golovkin's camp, but Soliman chickened out and decided to fight Taylor who has a glass chin and zero stamina. Abraham knocked Taylor out......................Soliman will probably knocked Taylor out and Golovkin will knock both out...............
I can see a scenario in wich Taylor makes it a somewhat competitive fight against the old man and then gets the nod in the US. But it's almost 5 years since AA effectively ended JT's top level career, and all other scenarios lead to a Soliman victory in maybe scary fashion.
I just don't want to see taylor fight again like I've said previously, his last round losses against Abraham and froch after dominating the fight, were nothing short of troubling - especially with the way he got KO'd in the Abraham fight the only thing scarier than taylor fighting again, is how good he really would have been if he had froch's resilience as an attribute EDIT : taylor is a first ballot 'I could die in the ring' candidate for me, just like joe messi was
Really excellent post! :deal ( in stark contrast to the " Taylor wins" nonsense being spouted previously. The blinkered, ridiculous pro-American bias here is farcical)
