Umm.. and Ward's contractual $1.75 mil per a fight is likely to encourage a Golovkin fight? Who's gonna pay for it? HBO got screwed on the Rodriguez fight and they ain't likely to want to get shafted again anytime soon.

As you tactfully point out, Golovkin is yet to become a huge draw. Andre and Gennadys viewing figures are actually fairly close, but neither justify multi-million $ paydays by themselves - which is exactly why the fight doesn't make financial sense (and this quite aside from the high risk of any potential fight being derailed by Wards legal issues)

Ward has backed himself into a legal and promotional corner where it has become essentially unrealistic for any top fighter to approach him (or rather Goosen, who remains his promoter - in name at least).

It's clear that Ward is - or at least was - the best SMW on the planet, but he's simply overpriced himself - you keep getting the big paydays by either being a really exciting fighter in the ring or a really controversial person out of it. Andre Ward is neither.

I respect Andre as an incredibly talented fighter and despite my criticism, I remain a fan, but the guy needs to get his ass back in the ring.

And s#it - what's that last bit? You got a problem with your fellow citizens of planet earth liking fighters who don't happen to share their nationality?

You gonna tell me next you ain't OK with us foreigners supporting your favourite fighters?

Why are people saying "GGG's team only making that offer because they know Ward can't fight" when GGG got Rubio next anyway and so if not Ward after that then maybe Cotto? GGG ain't waiting for Ward just like no SMW is waiting for Ward to sort his sheez out, and I guess that in 6 months should be enough time for them to do that? (Would allow for Rubio fight and another training camp and promotion, and Ward sort himself out too?)

Diva behaviour. You know they try to flip the script and make GGG chase Ward. It's like an ugly girl turns on a ***** shield as though she is a hotty - you look at her and correctly recognise insecurities right away. Smh

No doubt it's an alt, but **** like that just kill ESB, it's one thing to make arguments and debate, but it's just trolling that kills every serious discussion.

    ..yes?

How did HBO get screwed? What you think they were expecting?
Ward/Rodrigues got 300K+ more viewers than heavily promoted Golovkin/Geale, despite being at the same time as UFC 167 with GSP and Sonnen fighting.

HBO might start to like the idea of Ward/Golovkin if Golovkin's ratings flop again against Rubio, who got 1.9M viewers with Chavez.

How do you figure? What would the combined purse for this fight be?

Ward Rodriguez still did mediocre numbers, just not poor like GGG Geale, but it cost 3m, which is a lot even for HBO.

As mentioned by LP above.. Ward vs La Bomba cost close to $3 mil in the fighters' costs alone and just didn't justify the purses (in part 'cos Haymon came into the picture late and raised Rodriguez' demands knowing that HBO had no realistic alternatives for Ward).

Golovkin - Geale wasn't heavily promoted, Golovkin himself has been pushed pretty hard by HBO but Geale was essentially unknown to casual US audiences and HBO hardly tried to showcase him.

OK. Figure it in - HBO have a fighter they are trying to build but ain't quite there yet in terms of popularity and another who costs one f#ck of a lot more to get in the ring yet brings about the same viewership and whose future plans are kinda opaque, with defection to a rival network certainly being a possibility, and who is, in effect out of the game due to legal problems.

The simple fact is that a Ward fight would be the toughest of GGGs career by a wide margin, yet to the casual fans who pay the bills it would be largely irrelevant.

HBO currently have no reason at all to pay $1.75mil+ to Ward, especially at the potential price of having one of their building stars lose and knowing there's every likelihood of the date falling through.

Team Golovkin have no reason to take potentially the toughest fight Golovkin might ever have for a cut-price payday when the fight could even have PPV written on it in the future (and also facing the above risk of the fight simply getting cancelled, so setting GGGs career back still further).

What on earth makes you think that GGG - Rubio bombing would make a GGG - Ward fight more likely, BTW? You think they're gonna pay Ward $2mil to fight an unpopular MW?

GGG is the best MW right now. Ward is retired, selling panyhose to grandmothers or something...
