If you have tried to box or have been following the sport for years, its not a secret that you will have problems catching someone who clearly doesn't want you to catch him. Especially on survival mode where that fighter don't even try to punch and is only dedicated to not get hit. It really hard.

You must be thinking about a fictitious sport.

The idea behind boxing, and bare with me here for a second, is to try and hit your opponent as many times and as clearly as possible without getting hit.

What you described would be considered "KO fighting," and not boxing.

And what do you mean by the evolution of defensive wizardry? There's been great defensive fighters since the beginning of the sport- you should probably do your research into great defensive fighters like Benny leonard and Willie Pep. Those 2 "boxers" were known for their defensive oriented style and are both widely considered top 10 P4P fighters of all time. If people think Floyd is boring, they would absolutely hate watching film on Willie Pep.

 

Pac uses angles to control the opponent. Cutting off the ring in the traditional fashion (alla Margacheato for the division) isn't really Manny's style. Pac is so unique in how he uses the the ring and also the ropes when he's on them. I don't think this thread is too relevant. Manny's skill-sets are some of the most unique in all of boxing and to make blanket statements like " his footwork sucks and he can't cutoff the ring" are entirely imprecise....

He clearly doesn't understand the difficulty in cutting off the ring against a retreating target, (Mosley), when you're an undersized opposite stance fighter.

 

Can't successfully stalk fighters like DLH, Cotto, Morales x3, Barrera x2, Marquez x2, Ledwaba, Clottey, Bradley x2, Mosley and many others. As a matter of fact, if he lacked proper movement with his aggression Marquez would have exploited it in the very first fight without the need for four back to back fights to finally do it. It's absolutely ridiculous and stupid to even suggest that an ATG like Pacquiao lacks proper movement in his aggression.

Want to see a true one-dimensional journeyman quality(only when gloves are loaded) fighter who lacks proper movement in his aggression?. Watch Antonio "Hands of Plaster" Concreto, that guy is the ideal example of how failing to cut off the ring works.

Look at some of Tyson fights. Pacquiao is not great or even that good at cutting off the ring but does it really matter if he can get to you anyway? He is still one of the fastest fighters in the world.
