Rubio is a solid challenger.

....Who has developed into a very capable middleweight contender. As long as GGG continues to face fighters at this level, I can't really complain.

it's time for unification bouts. rubio is a step backwards. i could see if he had been in some wars...taking on rubio would make sense...but he's been demolishing everyone. time to step it up. if the others aren't stepping up to the plate...then rubio is justifiable.

Rubio hasn't developed into anything...stop hyping that trash.

You can complain ....but you're too much of a di.ckrider to do so.

it's probably not his fault. i don't want to see him fight any more no hopers. he's ready now! quillen, jacobs, cotto, korobov....those are the only guys i want to see him against at 160. he needs a better team behind him.

I'm a GGG fan but Rubio is ass. He's got like 60+ fights and what's his best win? Knocking out a hypejob in Lemieux? He was too terrified against Pavlik to let his hands go, same with Chavez and it will be the same against GGG. It's just a question of whether GGG stops him or not (he will). He needed a gift to win a decision against Enrique Orenelas lol and let's not forget the Kofi Jantuah fight. What a KO....Just stop the Rubio hype, this guy is a bum.

Yet you said Geale was going to destroy Golovkin. And when GGG took him apart, you went into hiding as SweetScienceGu and opened a new account to call Geale a bum :think

Are you a moron? When did Rubio last fight at JMW? Like 10 years ago or something?

****, I guess you gonna criticise Kovalev for fighting a 'Middleweight' in November as well.

As has been pointed out, Rubio ain't exactly an elite fighter but he's certainly a legitimate challenger, and there's very few at 160 I'd confidently pick over him at the weight.

At MW he's lost to a prime Kell Pavlik and a supersized JCC jr, you wanna s#it on the guy for the sake of your agenda? No-one is surprised or impressed.

Myself, yeah, I'd prefer a bigger name than Rubio, but they're in kinda short supply... Quillin and Korobov are kinda tied up right now, Cotto's got himself an extension, Soliman looks to still be fighting Taylor (in spite of Jermaine's recent firearms and battery incident) and Murray is Golovkin's frontrunner for his next Monte Carlo fight.

    Just who should Golovkin fight?

I could complain...But then I'd be acting like a petulant little six year old girl. And you've got that aspect well covered, Songhai. No need for me to tread on your territory...little girl. :good

A unification bout at MW isn't in the cards; and I'd rather GGG face another contender than someone who isn't rated at all. Rubio fits the bill of a tough, rated contender who will come to fight. I get the feeling you would much rather have watched Golovkin face someone who wasn't rated, just to give you opportunity to ***** some more. But that places you in the minority, in this regard. Even some posters who have been critical of GGG's resume can't really fault Golovkin for fighting two ranked contenders in a row if a unification bout can't be made.

Korobov is neither a bigger name nor necessarily a more credible challenge than Rubio.

Don't forget, the kid, after generation hype similar to Golovkin's around when he turned pro, fell into complete obscurity for several years - not even inactive, just laying very low and getting brought along slowly against mediocre opposition. Even now after stepping up a bit and raising his profile in the last couple of years his biggest accomplishment is beating a couple of game double-digit journeymen elder statesmen (Brewer and Duran) and a couple of okay prospects (Edwards and Uzcategui)

He may end up proving to be five times as much the inordinately, prematurely and disproportionately celebrated fraud as the haters claim Golovkin to be.

As for Korobov vs. Rubio head to head, you know what? I like Matvey and all, very skillful and talented...but I see Rubio dragging him into a war and winning that war by stoppage. That's right - sorry, not sorry.

Does this thread read like hype to you, or more like an appeal to reason? :think

If you think I have a dog in the "pro Golovkin vs. anti Golovkin" race, you're wrong. Obviously the Golovkin fans are going to be happier about me making this thread, but some of them are the very ones that were, strangely enough, shitting on Rubio the worst, even apologizing on Golovkin's behalf for taking a "soft touch" or "step back" in Rubio and promising he will return to a higher standard when people stop ducking him - which is ridiculous, because Rubio is at least as high a standard as Geale and Macklin.

I'd like to see a unification bout too, but this is about as good a contender as GGG could face given the fact that Soliman is committed to facing Taylor and Quillen-Korobov is set.

Who else is out there? Murray looked uninspired agianst Bursak, Macklin's already been beaten. Sturm and Martinez are both well past their best before date. The guys at the top level of MW aren't avaialble. Not too many guys at the second level to choose from; and Rubio's among the best of that bunch.

There are scores of threads on the subject, but what exactly is Golovkin doing (cite facts) to stand in the way of unification?

    I'll wait...

Absolutely not. From whom? Geale? Macklin? Same level. Adama? Stevens? Both a couple of levels below Geale/Macklin/Rubio.

That makes no sense whatsoever. I really hope you don't go claiming anywhere that Golovkin is running scared from punchers and dodging anyone that can test his chin...because it would make the above statement total bunk. You can't have your chin tested by a puncher if you have already been softened up by other punchers in wars.

This damned-if-he-does and damned-if-not logic is pretty unfair and counterproductive to conversation.

Rubio is dangerous (to anyone), period - no matter how fresh Golovkin is or how much damage he is yet to absorb in the pros.

...but, they aren't - so, he is. Yes?
