what would it have done to your all time rankings for both fighters. How far would Chavez move up and Whitaker down? Seems like it was a pretty big fight for both in an all time rating sense and a h2h sense. What if it was reversed and it was chavez who decidedly won?
If chavez won he would have proven he could conquer any style... as it was it finished a draw that most people I've spoken to feel pea won.
I definitely feel Whitaker won that one. I agree that Chavez' already considerable legacy would have been enhanced
this is a win he needed to prove himself. he needed to prove he could step up the competition and beat a top ranked american fighter. I personally felt he was going to flounder in this one based upon what I saw in the Taylor fight. so it really came as no surprise that he flopped the way he did. looks great against class b competition but put him in against a Taylor, a Whitaker, a DLH or prime Camacho, and he loses every time
Whitaker got robbed in his two best fights - Chavez and La Hoya. Had Chavez won this fight I would have him ranked above Pernell all time, but, he lost.
