Perhaps IF Maidana defeats the undefeated GOAT of the last decade Mayweather will that replace the Buster Douglas moment? I think it will because, so many people already expect Floyd to win. Give me your thoughts.

It would be hilarious...Floyd might as well retire at that point but he'd go into recovery mode and do everything he could to fight Pacquiao...since that's the only thing he might be able to do to save his ass.

Devon Alexander's ego would go through the roof...

Mike Tyson was far bigger than Floyd back then, it was a major news story, Mike was known by everyone in the country, he was in his prime, it was truly shocking.
If Floyd gets stopped it will be big news, but if he is beaten on points no one in the mainstream will care that much.

Hows that? Maidana fought a very close fight with Mayweather the first time. Buster was 100-1 underdog against Tyson

Hardly. The warning signs where there to see in their first fight.

... Tyson was 24 and the "baddest man on the planet" he was supposed to be unstoppable. Floyd is 37 and the last fight with maidana seen people who had him losing. No where near as big.

It would be huge, but at the same time there are many differences that suggest it nowhere near as devastating (Tyson was prime in his 20's while Floyd is past prime at 37, Douglas was unranked fringe contender while Maidana is top 10 former titlist, Tyson had never really struggled before while Maidana had just won 3 rounds over Floyd four months before rematch).

Tyson at that time was seen as invincible, we were watching the greatest heavyweight of all time smash the heavyweight division to pieces. Defeat to Douglas was unthinkable.
