The whole reason for the backlash he's getting is that he was hyped up to be much more as he actually was and a KO loss against a gatekeeper is just the thing that was needed to take him down a nodge.
It was clear for a while now that he was nothing like what he was hyped up to be but as long as he made it to the final bell on his feet and didn't get completely humiliated in there the judges would do their job and hand him the win. But when you're laying face down on the floor the judges can't help you anymore either.

Then you have the whole tmt crap surrounding it, the ped use and the attitude wich makes the normal boxfan want him to lose badly.

So turning sh*t around and saying it's the people who are happy about it being the ones bigging him up is total bull and I believe the op knows that himself too.

He definitely deserves to be ridiculed now like Broner before him, but with 2 levels of quality and obnoxiousness between them.

Most had him top ten in the world already, you don't get to the top ten on his kind of record without hype

Exactly!... i don't remember anybody calling Love "the future of boxing" or "the savior of the SMW division" or anything like that. If he was being hyped, it wasn't for his ability in the ring. I never heard anybody call him a future star like they used to with andre ward and broner, etc. He was a decent prospect who at the time was undefeated. He also fights for a top promoter...just like ponce deloen when he was starting out. remember how ponce got schooled a couple of times on the way up?

Love might never become a star, but he can recover from this and get back in the mix.

The alphabet organisations had his top 10, dont know many people on this forum or any fans for that matter that did.

He did beat Periban though and that is what got him his ranking.

he does come across as a decent guy....all this hate for him just goes to show that it really doesn't matter what his personality is. All the talk about his "personality" is nothing more than an excuse for hating him because he's associated with FMJ...and of course, being a black fighter, they're gonna say that he's just like broner, because broner is black too even though the two have completely different personalities. That kind of thinking reveals how stupid people are....Kind of like hating ali because he's loud and boastful, so a person would hate frazier too, thinking that because he's also black, he's also loud and boastful.

To be fair, every country has their fair of share of boxers taking the general public for a ride. Audley Harrison in Britain is a prime example, Valuev in Germany/Russia - there are many other examples.

But at least they didn't have to pay top dollar (euro/rubles) to see Valuev fight, that's a big difference.

I never got the Audley thing though... how could they be so blind?!

Europe doesn't have the whole PPV business model in boxing, but I would assume the people that were attending his fights (and he did pull the crowds), did pay good money.

All I am saying that hyping up a crap to mediocre boxer and fleecing the public on money is not something that is unique to a particular country, it is a tried and tested formula the world over.

To be fair after the olympics people thought he was going to be another Lewis.

About 10 fights later...the horrible truth was revealed
