Mh ... what makes Stevenson the lineal champion?

That he beat Dawson after Ward beat Dawson? The Dawson who previously beat Hopkins?

Was Dawson/Hopkins/Pascal considered the lineal champ?


I think it's possible to call Ward the lineal champ although he never boxed at 175lb.

Ward beat Rodriguez, Rodriguez beat Grachev, Grachev beat Erdei, Erdei beat Gonzalez, Gonzalez beat Michalczewski, Michalczewski beat Hill and unified 3 belts while WBC-champ Montell Griffin got his one from Roy Jones, who previously was named the WBC champion, because Tiozzo moved up to cruiserweight.

 

Stevenson is still the man he beat the man that beat the man Kovalev's WBO title is worthless in this scenario !

 

NO he isn't.stevenson is the number one guy like cotto is at mw which is to say not really.ducking the more challenging fights stevenson and cotto are becoming laughing stocks.

 

Stevenson beat the number one light heavyweight chad Dawson. Therefore becoming the man in that division. To be the man , u have to beat the man. Hopkins and kovalev are fighting for number 2.

 

your forgetting one key part and that's stevenson clearly ducking kovalev.that means to me that stevenson knows he would lose to kovalev.Im sure stevenson is well aware of that glass jaw of his.

 

Kovalev was never the man to beat ..Refusing a fight doesn't make you the man in the division beating the champion does and that's what Stevenson did .

 

Stevenson is the lineal champ.

But the winner of this fight would be a clear number 1 imo.

This lineal champ thing, was it something made up by a magazine? Watch how many posters take it as gospel.

I think you have to look at the overall picture. At the moment there are a few fighters who have some claim.
Stevenson does for a win over Dawson coming off a loss to win the WBC title.
Kovalev does for beating a good undefeated LHW champ and then beating a fighter who some felt could have been unified WBA & IBF champ.
Hopkins has claim for what he has done in the division overall since moving up and unifying titles.

When Michalczewski was champ at LHW, he beat the WBO, WBA & IBF LHW champ and a fighter who had claim to the WBC belt, so I felt there was little arguement, yet some felt Jones winning some of the titles Dariusz vacated had claim and that was possibly due to being awarded a magazine title even though Dariusz beat the man.

I guess there are all different arguements?

 

Dawson and Pascal were considered by most the nr 1 and nr 2 best LHW back in 2010. So then they fought and Pascal was crowned king of the LHW. :conf Whats all the fuss about?

You can say that they created their own lineage.

Dariusz Michalczewski - Julio Cesar Gonzalez - Zsolt Erdei - Denis Grachev - Edwin Rodriguez

But Erdei announced his retirement and gave up his belts. The Lineage was broken but there was already another one.

While Darusz was racking on wins during his WBO crusade, Jones Jr was recognized as the true champ at LHW. He was the p4p king.

Jones - Tarver - Johnson - Hopkins - Calzaghe

Calzaghe retired and ended that lineage.

So in 2010 a new lineage was started. Pascal - Hopkins - Dawson - Stevenson.
