Palomino has to weather early success from Honeyghan, but fares well down the stretch and takes a close decision.
Palomino was a very good boxer/puncher. Shame for him that he came along while Benitez,Leonard,Hearns and Duran were on the scene. He would have been champ for quite a few more years otherwise
I don't know. Carlos was very skilled as well as tough. But Honeyghan was a strong welterweight with good power and precision. He broke down a prime Donald Curry and beat a few other good men as well. Probably not a fight i'd put money on either way
Palomino... Granite chin, superb conditioning,good power and mental toughness. He completed when there was iron in the welterweight division...Just a better over all fighter IMO...
Palomino was the more solid of the two,his fundamentals were more consistent. Honeyghan fought a great fight the night he beat Curry,because he was disciplined. He never really fought to that standard again,in his following fights he was extremely sloppy and made mistakes,a well rounded fighter like Starling schooled him. I'd go for Palomino here but Honeyghan would always be dangerous with his power.
Honeyghan starts strong and builds an early lead but Palomino's body attack slowly, but surely chops Lloyd down. Palomino TKO 11.
I think that Carlos Palomino employs a savage body attack just as he did in beating John H. Stracey for the WBC Title in June 1976. He could withstand adversity as he did early against Armando Muniz and Davey Boy Green in 1977. LLoyd Honeyghan is a very agressive counter puncher and would be busy early as he was against Donald Curry in his title winning effort in 1986 over Donald Curry. But Palomino's body attack slows down Lloyd by round 12, when Carlos ends the bout with a very wicked left hook that ends the evening for The Ragamuffin Man.
