Ive been scanning my old boxing magazines, connverting them to OCR PDF, and indexing them. Does anyone else do this? At some point Id like to go entirely paperless. If anyone else is doing this you probably know its a pretty big job. We could trade to save each other time and round out our collections.

What I did was get a wide format scanner and lay the magazine open faced and scan both pages. So far the only magazines Ive had issues with are the first 10 years (give or take) of Ring magazine which are thicker, on heavier paper, and appear to be perfect bound instead of booklet stapled. This makes it hard to get a good scan down the center of some of the binding and depending on the condition of the magazine can be problematic. Otherwise Ive had no issues.

I think that's a good idea. Nice to keep hold of the originals as well.

Because of the problem with the scanner size I photograph my articles, run them through windows editor to enhance them then save them as files.

I no longer have any of my old boxing mags dating back to the sixties but...you can find the Sports Illustrated site (dig, you can find it) that gives you articles from the 50's and beyond. Type in a fighter, set a date paramater, and you get all the articles during that period about any fighter. I've found many articles that I remember reading about years ago tho forgetting the particulars of the article. Great source for the old stuff.

Another good one though in Spanish is the Hemeroteca - Informador archive.

The IBRO journals are full of old boxing articles. For a small amount of money these 50 plus page journals could be scanned into PDF.

You just scan a magazine here and there whenever you have time. One magazine a day is a realistic, easily attainable goal.

Correct. It is only a hugely time consuming thing if you attempt to do them all together. A few at a time, when you have the time, is the way to go :good

Ughh… I own a business that is becoming a bit successful. 14 hour days take away from this thing called "free time".. But I will gladly read any of the stuff pre-1975 from any of you that do this.

If your business is becoming successful your time is becoming more and more valuable. Therefore, if you did want it done, pay someone else to do it :good
