HOF fighter. Jones was the only guy to ever stop him in his prime.

Jones beat a stack of title holders at his peak, that people forget about

It's sad he didn't get out of the game after the Ruiz fight now most fans will call him a HYPEJOB bum. He was one of the most athletic fighters of our time who made others look super ordinary. Tarver caught him coming down in weight and on the downside physically and Jones didn't have pure boxing skills like someone like Hopkins to fall back on. He was a physical beast in his prime and would give any fighter problems.

    You heard wrong.

He fought a few medicore opponents, but basically fought top calibre opposition once he made it to teh top himself.

    Clinton Woods
    Thulani Malinga
    Reggie Johnson
    Jorge Castro
    Otis Grant
    Eric Lucas
    Mike McCallum
    Julio Caesar Gonzalez
    John Ruiz

    As well as Toney/Hopkins/Hill

Were all guys who had/did/would hold recognised world titles

Lets not forget as well, that he beat Tarver in the first fight

massive weight gain (possibly using steroids, building mass inappropriately quickly) followed by massive weight loss.

Lets not forget as well that Roy was not always 100% motivated or disciplined as someone like Hopkins for instance which payed off later in his career.

I remember reading that Roy had a weakness for junk food, and would just play basketball and run to train for some fights.

Clinton Woods was an IBF champ who went 1-1-1 with Glen Johnson and who beat Gonzalez twice

    Gonzalez retired DM

Reggie Johnson was a respected 2 weight champ. 4 of his 7 losses came as SD's. Jones was the only guy to ever decisively beat him.

Jorge Castro would go on to be a WBA MW champ and fight for world titles up as far as cruiser

Ruiz was at worst a top 5 HW, who had 30 lbs on Jones.

Malinga had wins over Benn and Reid.

I would consider those guys good fighters.

What if Roy fought Calzaghe, Eubank, Benn, Michalczewski, and Rocchigiani?

In the era of 4 belts per division none of this stuff you posted is really impressive. Who cares if a guy picked up some WBA or IBF trinket years later? With 4 belts it makes it pretty easy.

Compare that to SRR's era when there was just one belt and the guy beat how many former and current champions? That is impressive.
