Yes, officially. Going to purse bids soon. @ lufcrazy: When fighters vacate a belt to enhance their legacy via big name fights, they usually announce that big fight at the same time or at least hint at it. Not in Quillin's case. Cotto won't be fighting until 2015 so Quillin could have kept his belt, beat Korobov and unified with Cotto - now he's got no belt to bring to the table, forget Cotto. Golovkin has a fight lined up already for the remainder of 2014, he's not an option. Jacobs was rumored to fight Chudinov soon - my educated guess, seeing a bit of a trend with Al Haymon, is that Quillin and Jacobs will both fight bums for peanuts on the same card soon, then fight each other for big peanuts, say half the payday Quillin just passed on. What a fukkin legacy that is, don't you think? :deal
The guy didn't want big fights when he had the belt. He had opportunities to fight GGG. He had the chance to fight Lemieux. He (or Al) didn't want it. Korobov would've been both his best defense and highest payday. Why act like the belt was holding him back somehow? That was the only bargaining chip he had. Now, Peter's just another top 10 middleweight with undercard marketability. Goodbye Cotto, goodbye Golovkin. If Daniel Jacobs was the end game......why not just do it after Korobov? Belts matter for fighters like Quillin who can't sell on their name.
even though it's common knowledge that Quillin is a *****, i still didn't think he'd go and drop the title and embarrass himself further. damn, i guess i was wrong. don't be surprised to see Peter running through the streets of New York with a dildo in his mouth and a butt-plug sticking out of his Arse. he's so up for making himself into a complete joke, that this now looks like a possibility in the near future.
Sorry luf.....that's just crazy. Considering he could have easily just have beaten Korobov, earning a career payday, then unified with either Jacobs, Chuddy, or GGG. He punked out. PERIOD. The ONLY reason I would NOT call this a BLATANT duck is if Quillin OUTED Haymon, saying something to the effect that AL paid him to drop it so JayZ would not break into BIG TIME boxing with his fighter.:think
Beyond the payday, he had the opportunity to headline a multi-million dollar show in NYC with a deep-pocketed new promoter eager to make it an event. He's not getting that opportunity again. The irony? Had he fought Korobov and lost, he could've still made the Jacobs fight. It'd have been just as meaningful under that scenario as it will be now that he's vacated the WBO belt. He's just a lot poorer now than he would've been and his reputation is shot.
Stay tuned for the other train wreck heading our way guys with another haymon fighter.. Jermain taylor vs soliman !!!!!
Right here. It's obvious that something big is going on behind the scenes that we're unaware of. A big fight is looming for Quillin. :deal I truly believe that the only reason why this fight isn't happening is because Haymon is not satisfied with the contract. :deal
