This is a quality post. Too bad many posters don't appreciate for what it is, which is the truth. People my age can admire Mayweather but put his skills into context of the Fab 4, I don't those who haven't watched the fab 4, and are relatively young, can do the same thing.

People won't give Mayweather his just due until he retires.

When he does, he will be mentioned up there with Leonard/Hagler/SRR/Armstrong/etc etc....

    That's usually what happens.

    No.

    That fight was real.

Canelo just couldnt catch up to Lara's speed, but anyways, Canelo was rewarded by the Boxing Authorities (Oscar, PPV, Casinos, Vegas, Nevada Boxing Commission, etc.) by giving Canelo a controversial decision win, because Canelo did the boxing authorities a big favor by "throwing his fight" against Floyd, because Floyd avoided Canelo for previous years, so it took Oscar to get Canelo to "throw the fight", and Canelo was promised he would win his next fight as a bonus.

Canelo sacrificed his "0" in a FIXED FIGHT that brought over $200 Million in revenue, and Vegas made big profit, so they rewarded him further by giving him the decision against Lara.

He's given the dues he deserves, you want to make him out to be the ATG#1 and that just isn't who he is. He's a great, great fighter who never took the chances necessary to be at the top of the ATG list.

As things stand he's probably in in the mid 30's and I don't see that changing. If he wanted to be one of the ATG's he would have found away to make the Pac fight. Neither is starving so this b.s. about who should get what, in order to make the fight happen, is exactly that. B.S.

I don't think it would've mattered if he took the "chances" and was victorious in them all, he still wouldn't be considered the # 1 P4P fighter of all time.

It's going to be hard for anyone to trump the likes of Robinson, Armstrong, Greb, Ali and Pep. What those guys accomplished inside the ring is going to be hard to emulate, let alone beat.

For FLoyd to garner consideration at the very top of the P4P mantle he would've had to have beaten several ATG's in his career. Unfortunately aside from Pacman and Hopkins, there aren't any true ATG fighters currently in boxing.

IMO FLoyd still deserves to be recognized somewhere inside the top 30 P4P all time. The guy has an incredible skill set and as far as natural talent and ability go, he's probably one of the best ever. But resume-wise there's probably not much he could've done in his career to be considered the very best ever. A win against Pacman can help his All-time stock, but it's not going to skyrocket him into the top 10.

No, floyd is not even Top 10 ATG, too many greats too many history too many real men's, yes he has great skills but his speed is the "special one", but again there are many great fighters that know how to fight fast hands, then in the skill department is a whole other game there are many greats that fought better harder tougher oposition and prove themselves, wich is what Floyd lacks....

SRR, Duran, Ike Williams, Holman William, Alexis Arguello, JCC, Charley Burley, SRL, Hagler, Griffith, Ezzard Charles, Henry Armstrong, Sam Langford, Whitaker, Cocoa Kid, and the list goes on

If Mayweather would have beaten Pac in his prime, it would probably elevate him 5-10 places on the list, which isn't insignificant. Top 10 nope, but if he beat Pac and managed to beat a middleweight he might have come close.

Bottom line is that Mayweather doesn't deserve to be in top echelons and to a large extend it's of his own calculated making. He purposely chose to protect his "0" again fighting the best, either because of money or because he was scared, the result ends up being the same.

I still think that fight holds a lot of substance to it. Aside from JMM, who has Pacman really lost to in the past decade? He's still universally recognized as one of the 2 or 3 best fighters in the world, and a win for either guy in their current form can still move them up a few spots in the all-time ranking.

My previous post was more directed towards the idea that him fighting and beating such guys like Paul Williams, Margarito and Kostya still wouldn't put him in the conversation of being the best ever.

I will say though if he can run his record to 50-0 and get wins over Pacman and let's say Cotto for the lineal MW championship, than a strong argument can be made for him to be considered inside the top 15 of all time. 5 lineal titles in 6 weight classes would be a tremendous accomplishment. He still can end his career on a very high note if he chooses to take those fights, which IMO are very winnable for him.

I don't disagree, but I don't think a win over Pac at this point in time means the same thing as beating pac 4 years ago, that's just my personal opinion.

What gets me is that Floyd didn't say anything about Ariza and the "shakes".. Freddie Roach was the one who started it and now people are making it seem like it was Floyd who said Ariza was "shady" and wouldn't say what was in the shakes...
