Thanks ,just ascertaining the truth. It seemed rather contradictory. Wonderful achievement on Packey's behalf he still doesn't come close as an all rounder, which of course was not your point.
Calzaghe was a legend. Best cardio and ferocious workrate I have ever seen, IMO the best super middleweight ever. It's crazy how much disrespect and hate that guy gets on the forum.
Pro football players deserve a shout, Deion Sanders, Brian Urlacher, Ray Lewis, Marshall Faulk. All phenomenal athletes, especially ray and Brian, not only quick powerful and agile on the field all the while being masters of their craft but strong as all hell. Same with that big ol' ******* ****** Sapp.
How was he? Because he had great cardio and could Box, that makes him an all around athlete? Joe wouldn't have succeeded in ANYTHING BUT Boxing.
In terms of pure skill and talent in his respective sport, Robinson is probably in the top ten, but not number one. I can't see him ranked above someone like Jim Thorpe, who won gold medals for pentathlon and decathlon, as well as having played pro football, baseball, and basketball. He's still easily the highest ranking boxer on that list though. In terms of historical significance, Ali and Louis rank ahead of him, as do several others like Jackie Robinson, Maurice Richard, and Johnny Unitas.
Wouldn't have came anywhere mate. It's one thing having a great engine in Boxing, but it doesn't always transfer over to other sports. If anyone thinks that Joe Calzaghe would have had ANY chance against the likes of Gebrselassie, Nurmi, Bekele etc then I don't know what to say...
1903-11-17 The Chicago Daily News (page 6) In the preliminaries Young Duffy knocked out Walter Parker in three rounds and "Dusty" Miller won on a foul from Patsy McFadden in the sixth round. Morris Rauch defeated Dick Wolf in six rounds.
In terms of mastery of their respective sports, I have Lionel Messi and Sugar Ray Robinson as the two greatest athletes.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar. His team only lost 2 games in his entire high school career. At UCLA they were 88-2 in 3 years of varsity play..3 National titles. 3 time Player of the year They even outlawed the dunk because they wanted to slowdown Mr. Alcindor. He then went on to play 20 years in the NBA. 6 MVPs 6 World Titles All-time leading scorer Mastered the greatest shot in history. The Skyhook.
