Almost 50 yrs ago I started my apprenticeship in a gym, the head coach's style was with the back being up straight weight on the the back foot with the chin almost behind the shoulders. 1,2 combos only with the power behind the elbows"punch like your catching flies"! No shoulders snaps, body shots, hooks, kicking the heels out or anything should cause the head to come forward! We had some lads who were ko artists but he wouldn't let them fight. Unless they do it right their not going to fight. I remember pleading with him let them fight, the response was "oh they'll win 110% of the time but I brought this style into the gym and when I leave this style will stay"! For you boxers don't be ashamed to change gyms.:bbb
I switched gyms, I used to go to a gym that cost 85 dollars a month. the gym was so nice, but it was more catered for the general public that wanted to work out and learn a little boxing. I soon found a gym that was in a fire house and funded by the city. more serious boxers..and better knowledgeable trainers.
