Below is what he said about Lateef-Ortiz fight for Interim WBA Heavyweight Title. I know he is promoter but he should have more respect for the sport and fans rather then assuming fans are as dumb as him.

“The heavyweight championship has long been the most prestigious title in all of boxing and Luis Ortiz and Lateef Kayode will be bringing it in order to win that belt and put their names in the history books,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “This is the perfect way to kick off a great weekend of boxing in Las Vegas.”

Remember the following - being great at one thing does not mean you will be great at another.

Oscar is simply a brilliant brilliant fighter but a complete nit wit outside of it.

Yes it is, but promoters are bull**** artists, they don't like selling the truth, the truth doesn't make Oscar any money

Well he is their promoter trying to sell the fight. Maybe alittle overboard with the "historical" take on it, but its actually not that bad of a match up.

Again I don't begrudge him his right to promote the fight but he had to know what a mockery this makes of what used to be a prestigious title and for long term health of sport garbage like the WBA are cancer. It's me venting and being naive to think he would care. With the recent Quillen thing and Jacobs holding another fake belt boxing has more than ever been about promoters playing games with bogus belts used as props.
