Frampton v Kiko II...who wins and how?

Anyway, back to real life and not geography for the P1s, just home. Give Kiko serious credit, went out on his shield, was always a threat I thought and refused to wilt. Carl is just a bit special though - controlled for most part bar 7 when seemed to take a round off, but executed a gameplan to perfection. Atmosphere weird as outdoors so noise seemed to disappear (freezing too). However, with so much pressure and expectation, Frampton was unreal. Quigg is a lovely lad, but he is nowhere near that level of Carl or Kiko. It's Avalos next anyway

 

Great credit to Kiko. He never gave up trying. How many guys would have kept going forward into Carls shots, losing almost every round, without giving up. He must be devastated today. Respect to Kiko.

 

Ps. Christ, it WAS freezing cold!

 

The man has a great heart. He was outclassed by a better, younger, stronger boy and stopped trying.

Carl will probably be avoided by the "big" names at SBW, and more if he does not want to go to the US to fight.

I hope Kiko gets a fight on HBO/SHO and gets a couple of good paydays. Maybe Quigg steps up and offers him a fight.

 

Behind me were 3 guys from Alicante. I spoke to them before the fight. They were genuinely confident Kiko would win. When I looked to commiserate with them after it ended they were already gone. We must not forget the loser in these big fights....Carl broke a lot of hearts there.

 

Kiko is a warrior, **** me the mans a brick wall, i honestly don't think any other SBW could take some of those shots from Frampton.

 

Yes. And more than that he is deceptively clever and subtle.
For example the right cross that dropped him was part of a beautiful 3-punch combo.
Right uppercut-left hook-right cross.
Only the last one landed on kiko. He dodged the others nicely. People forget that.
If that was a more "defensively challenged" opponent ...eg Quigg or LSC then IMO 2 if not all 3 may have landed...then it would maybe be game over then and there.
Kiko is deceptively slippery. The other two are neither deceptive nor slippery. That could spell doom against Carl for Leo or Scott.

 

ok....my after-report from the night...
...a great night, great atmosphere, only dampened a little by the freezing cold, and it was freezing...we were on the stand that the wind was blowing against most and it was bitter cold.
kiko is such a tough man...admired him a lot for that.
frampton, he was superb...and it was great to see him get a world title strap.

...couldnt help but think all evening about how much of a gamble all this was for the mcguigans....if they had a wish list for the event it would probably have....no rain...no trouble...great atmosphere for tv...a good fight with lots of action...frampton to win the title........and every box got ticked.

only nit-picking thing i have is..... rigo....the real daddy of all them super-bantams...his name not mentioned by barry or carl....when barry said santa cruz was the real gravitas fighter in the division it soured with me a bit...but thats how boxing is i suppose.....it was very long and drawn out trying to explain to my missus when she was asking things like why arent frampton and santa cruz chomping at the bit to try and get to rigo if he's the proper champ in the division...not to mention the whole wba champ scott quigg "but i thought you said rigo was wba champion ??"...20 minutes into it all.."ok...lets start again..."
there seemed a difference of opinion between carl and barry on scott quigg.....carl sounding like he wants it very much next....barry dismissing it.

big night for shane mcguigan...his first world champ.

i would say though if they bring carl outdoors again....it could well be the same venue again....it would need to be further back a bit in the year...maybe june/july....its an awful chance trusting september weather in northern ireland.....i wondered if the whole arena would have been cheaper to hire in september compared to high peak summer months.

anyway....great night...glad i was there.
