Yup. Alongside Beterbiev this kid's gonna make some waves. Arum needs to be moving him along fast.

Oh BS - I forgot he was fighting. Have to tube it now... right now.:patsch

Anyway I think you can tube all his fights. Kid's a damn beast.

Edit: Dammit, doesn't look like it's up yet. Sure I'll catch it soon tho.

Yeah if you're interested in big hitting amateur standouts at LHW, Mekhontsev amateur teamate and occasional rival, Artur Beterbiev is due to fight Tavoris Cloud in 3 weeks in his 6th(!) fight.

Glad to see Egor stepped up his level of compitition in this fight you'll probably like Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk too they're both with Top Rank. Him and Mekhontsev are KO hitters but regular ones Kovalev and Beterbiev have freakish power.

I still can't find this fight anywhere on Tube ... if anyone finds it can they hook me up?

If it wasn't broadcast on Unimas I'm wondering if you were at the fight Ikeabuchia? - you sound that kinda impressed that you only get when you actually see a demolition job.

Oh... on a side note I'm sure a few here caught Lephikins destruction of solid Aussie journeyman Berridge? Lephikin doesn't have quite the amateur pedigree of a Mekhontsev or Beterbiev, but made it look very easy against an opponent that was on paper way out of his league - the guy's freakin huge as well, more like a cruiser or small heavy how he squeezed down to 175 I'm not sure but he moves well enough and does great with the jab and bodyshots (specially against a smaller guy like Berridge).

Incidentally he's also from Cheylabinsk, Kovalevs hometown, and lives in Gelendzhik where he's managed by Dmitry Pirog. I'd heard Pirog had some business interests that might be reducing his desire to return to the ring - I guess this is one of them - why fight when you've got a great big bast#rd like that to fight for you?

Beterbiev won as an am in the Russian champs when they were both much younger, but they obviously campaigned at different weights in the national team (with Mekhontsev achieving slightly more success) - even swapping weightclasses at one point.

As pros? Yeah so do I. I guess we'll have to wait until they're both hovering around title contention though. Neither TR or GYM are likely to gonna want to risk one of their potential stars '0's this early.

It will happen at some point though, coupla years perhaps? Depends how fast they move them.

Mekhontsev's third fight still hasn't surfaced yet and that was back in April, hopefully someone recorded a copy of this one and it shows up soon.

Lephikin looks promising. He does appear to be scarily big for the weight. I wonder how much he rehydrates to on fight night? I didn't know he was from Cheylabinsk, too. I wonder if he and Kovalev are friends or fought each other in the amateurs?

Interesting he's managed by Pirog. He disappeared from pro boxing for a few years as well - three years from 2010-2013. Maybe he suffered a bad injury too.

Sucks that we cannot get videos of his two most recent fights. If he were Murican they would have all his fights on TV.

Too bad someone on his team won't "accidentally" upload his fight on youtube.
Boxing is so ass backwards sometimes. You'd think they would want people to actually see the kid fight.

Yeah, apparently a bad injury - he does mention a torn achilles tendon but it's not 100% clear whether that's the injury that kept him out so long.
