if you think Mekhontsev is good wait until you see Joe Ward

Ward beat the **** out of Mekhontsev when he was 17 years old and Mekhontsev was 28

Cant wait until he goes pro after Rio.

I thought he'd actually have signed for a big promotional company already actually

I watched his fight against Mirafuente, and I agree with Bob. He needs to use his jab more.

What, beat him up for real or just outscore him?

On topic, Egor Mekhontsev is a best, I really am more hyped about this dude than Beterbiev.

    Cheers for that. Good interview.:good

Incidentally, his fight against the late Roman Simakov (RIP) is on Youtube. Lepikin dropped him hard with a peach of an uppercut in the third, but Simakov being the warrior that he was stood his ground and came right back at him landing some big shots of his own.

    was like 21-12

Mekhontsev started getting dirty because he was getting such a beating in the last round and joe hit him a counter left and drove his gum shield into the stand

Mekhontsev had to go for x-rays after the fight to see if his jaw was broken

and Beterbiev is better than Mekhontsev, Egor might win a would title his good but Beterbiev is a beast

Anytime Egor is mentioned this Irishman pops up and starts proclaiming how badly Ward beat him and how he's a future P4P great although the X-ray thing is new amongst his claims, it keeps getting worse and worse everytime he tells it and conveniently theres no footage. For all we know Egor was using the tournament to get in shape for one that actually matters like the Worlds or Olympics, which he won.

One could discredit Joe Ward the same way by pointing out that he lost to Benchable the amateur LHW divisions version of Marko Huck with worse technique but a little better boxing ability and a guy that Gvozdyk beat three times.

this guy is crazy bitter when ever Ward is mentioned, he discredits facts beuase they dont support his argument, does he not realise that Ward was also using that tournament as a warm up

he also fails to realise that Ward was extremely unlucky to not get that decision against Benchabla as he was fighting away from home, also the referee was the same nationality as Benchabla. Also Ward was 18 years old and not in shape for that fight, Benchabla was in his mid 20's. Id also point out that the weight limit for that fight was 85kg but ward had the national finals a week later at 81kg so he also was given up a lot of weight

Ward beat Mekhontsev easily when he was 17 and Mekhontsev was 27 so i can only imagine the beating he would give him when his not a child, unforunetly this guys nationalistic bias is clouding his judgement

Joe Ward was great as a kid, a stellar youth amateur .... any news on what he's doing with himself now?
