I might have lowballed him. He could go as high as 16th.

If Hops beats Kovalev (which i believe he will) i would have no problem placing him even with Hagler, Monzon, and even Lamotta on longevity alone, and the fact that he's fighting on this level at 50 in amazing:yep..

He held the undisputed middleweight title from 94-05, who else HAD AN 11 YEAR RUN?? beat Jones jr, De la hoya, and Trinidad, and also beat solid guy's in Pascual, Pavlik, Wright, and Tarver just to name a few..

I would rate him in the top 5 or 6 now, if he beats Kovalev he's around 3...

I think most of us don't count things done beyond middleweight for these rankings. Also Hopkins reigned for 10 years (Segundo) he wasn't undisputed until 2001. So that's 4 years. And he lost to roy at middleweight.

Is he fighting Kovalev at middleweight? Or did this thread stipulate where he ranks at light heavy?

Top 7 at middleweight. Great operator. Great boxing brain. Pure fighter.

Hopkins also.beat Roy in the rematch, although about 10 years too late, his reign of ,10 years was also longer than Monzon, Hagler, and Lamotta, not to he's still fighting at an advanced age when those aforementioned guys were long retired should be taken into strong consideration also...
In head to head matchups with those Middleweight ATG i see Hopkins in his prime being competitive with all of them, i sure as hell don't see anybody knocking him out, the guy has a chin of iron and he's crafty as hell..
Bill Gates was born to work in computers, as Bernard Hopkins was born to be.a prize fighter..

IF I looked at such lists as even possible to accurately endeavour, Hopkins would be rated at L-HW because that's what he really is compared to the actual size & weight of MOST fighters before his/this era.

he wouldn't ever be included in a middleweight list and among his peers at L-HW he'd probably be between 75 - 100.

there are NO greatest lists based on achievements as far as I'm concerned, because they don't spell it all out, and are not equally possible.

the ONLY proper list(s) for any Division or Era is H2H, and in the WHOLE ENTIRE HISTORY there are easily 100 good men that would beat him at the L-HW division/size that he always has been. Which again is the only way you can compare him to a 125 years of Boxing History before his era began.

I can't exclude the long history well before this era and try and 'stuff' thousands of fighters into 'today' compu box & speculated stats just to suit living colour and pay per view.

also it's easier to realign the last 30 years or so and "Fit them" into the way it was for OVER 100 years before them!

my humble opinion to truly try for 'equal' comparisons.
