Like Jason Donovan? Sometimes i wish Donovan Ruddock met and smashed Neil 'Razor' Ruddock, the fat footballer who stole his name.
Nah, i know what you mean. He also had that cool Jamaican accent. I feel his and Cooneys career paths are quite similar. Both became feared KO artists by beating old past it fighters. Both stepped up and got their butts kicked. Both were never the same after and were Kod everytime they stepped up and then faded very quickly into obscurity
I actually like the classy and more sophisticated names. The ones which imply ferocity can often come across as childish or quirky which isn't very intimidating either ( although I do like the name Bonecrusher. )
what about John "Quietman" Ruiz :nut i think the better nicknames are the ones that are actually relevant to a fighter.
Wow, storming matchup. One thing is for sure...and that is that this is not going to the cards. I like Ruddock here. He could get dropped and get up to win. I feel he is more resilient and more likely to win in a trench war. The punishment he took from Tyson in the 2nd fight was awesome...how he could withstand that to last the distance, I don't know. Gerry certainly can't be overlooked though. Big guy, big power. I don't think his chin or mental resolve are as good as Ruddock's though. But anything can (and probably would) happen. It's likely that both guys taste the canvas. Great matchup.
I think Gerry Cooney at his best would've beaten Ruddock at his best. I think Cooney hit a little harder than Ruddock, Cooney was maybe a little better boxer, and Cooney had the better chin. You needed to land repeated combinations to drop Cooney (which Ruddock didn't land a lot of), whereas Ruddock could be dumped by single shots. Cooney was also susceptible to right hands, which Ruddock didn't throw a lot of at all. Not to mention, Cooney was bigger than Razor. Ruddock didn't fight many guys larger than him. Cooney's left hook was more vicious than Tommy Morrison's. If Cooney hit Razor with that, I don't think Ruddock gets up. It would be very exciting, though.
Hard to say Rudduck lost most of his big ones Cooney only had one big one. I think its a matter of who gets to who 1st and I am think Cooney but both men have been stopped but I just think Gerry was the faster starter
I think tyrell Biggs is the most overrated heavyweight on here Cooney by stoppage But to be fair it could be the first one that lands a big shot first
It's essentially pretty even, but I'd give Ruddock the slight edge in this one if it goes past 5. It wouldn't surprise me if both men hit the canvas in this. Ruddock was mostly a big left hand puncher like Gerry was, but had a better overhand right imo. Ruddock beat Bonecrusher Smith in a 7 round brawl after getting off the deck and went 12 in the rematch with Tyson. Of course, Cooney had big power, maybe more than Ruddock and could potentially bang Razor out if he catches him with big punches early and that's his best chance.
In my ranking I consider that prime Cooney was better than prime Ruddock, but in a fight between the version of Razor that lost twice with Tyson against the version of Cooney that lost against Holmes I see a very even fight in which i could not give a winner
