Well said and hard to argue. He kept the sport alive when the superstars of the WW/MW division were in the waning stages of their careers and carried it into the 90's.
I know its tempting to bring up his losses to lewis and his antics with holyfield but if that was mike Tyson in there then im trevor berbick. Yes douglas did a great job on an unprepared Tyson but Tyson showed a real toughness and heart in that fight. he was being outpunched but never stopped looking for the ko. completely different to the lewis klitchko out of the blue kayos, and buster was far superior to oliver mcall, hasim rahaman and corrie sanders
Got his ass handed to him in some of his biggest fights...NEVER got off the floor and came back to win a fight...as all the greats have done...ATG?...no...
Lewis never got up from being floored. In fact he got his brains scrambled against a wannabe Sonny Liston and Tyson's fukking sparring partner.
He avenged his losses in dominant fashion, effectively beating every man he ever faced, something Tyson never did.
So, if he had been floored by Spinks or Berbick or Holmes he would have been a better fighter? So, Joe Louis getting floored by that fat slob Tony Galento raises his ATG status? Jack Johnson getting floored by a middleweight hophead does the same? Frazier getting spanked to the canvas twice by Bonavena makes him better than Folley who KD's Bonavena a year before? Jim Jeffries and Sonny ListonÂ… oh, that's right they didn't get floored in the their title reigns. Guess they aren't ATG's. The **** you people believe in astounds rationality.
Doesn't erase the losses. Bad ones at that. Single shots sparking him out. Looking like a newborn baby on that canvas soft spot.
of course he's an ATG! capable of beating ANY HW in Boxing History and in good fashion too. would he lose some? Yes, SO! he dominated in his own Era and convincingly and his later career was marred by many woe's, personal troubles boardering on mental health concerns, management and KING troubles as well as Prescription Medication. to think lifes circumstances can't effect performance is foolish & unfair thinking. have 'other' fighters had to face such troubles? Sure, but some get consideration for such, and some don't. EQUAL for ALL. of course he's a GREAT!
It's bizarre question because you're a Tyson fan. And i think you know the typical answers. You can't convience a hater, it's a time wasting. But obviously a famous man has lots of jealous hater. It's a logical outcome. Otherwise this ATG thing is total unimportant. I think (i wanna be diplomatic) the fighters fight for money and the opinions are unimportant.
Hate to break it to ya but guess what neither Muhammad Ali nor Lennox Lewis got off the floor to win a fight they were losing either :good
So what's worse in your eyes? One shot flash knockouts or utter demolition jobs?? Tyson never avenged any of his defeats, Lewis did.
Holmes just wanted money, he knew that he had ni chance, foreman never did need tyson to make his name it is based on your imagination, George had a name since tyson was around 7 years old, foreman said in tons OF programs that he would whip tyson in 2 rounds, and the funny thing is that he could have done it based on their styles
